Its simple, just fill out a new form.

You will have the extra money taken out of your check until the new W-4 takes effect which should take no more than a month.

The W-4 is a form that determines some of your withholding. It doesn't change the total tax that you owe, just the withholding. The I-9 form shows you have a legal right to work in the US. If you are sure you are not a dependent, put single/1 allowance on the W-4. It would be unusual but possible for a college freshman (unless they're 24 or older) living with their parents to not be a dependent. If your parents CAN claim you, even if they don't, you can't legally claim yourself and should put zero allowances on your W-4. If you're sure you won't make over $5700 total income for the year from all sources, you can put exempt on your W-4. Fill out the basic info on the I-9. Your employer will work with you to do the rest. You'll have to show them certain documents - those are listed on the form.

Just ask your emplioyer for another. Tell them to ignore the first one if possible. Your employer is required to provide and accept them whenever you want to make a change, and they are required to enact the change in a reasonable time (say 2 pay periods). A person's circumstances can change all the time, for example the number of dependents. Of course, the employer doesn't have to keep you employed if you annoy them with constant requests, so try to get it right.

You can change your W-4 at anytime. Go to your employer and ask to fill out another form. Signing and dating this one will supercede the one that you filled out originally.

Yes, just ask your employer for a new one. You are allowed to change it at any time. It might take a couple pay cycles to catch up to your paycheck.

Ask! . You have the right to do so.
