that comment about waiting is a good suggestion....but....
what if you:
(1) go to sites like http://www.dogbreedinfo.com & research the breeds that fit into your lifestyle
(2) find the location of where your dog may come from
(3) set money aside for the purchase of the dog as well as supplies needed for the dog to come home to you
(4) go to your mother with a written contract stating what you plan to do for, with and about your dog. make sure that you lay out what consequences will be had for not keeping to the terms.
if your mom is reasonable at all, i'm sure you can present her with all the knowledge possible to plead your request. i worked @ a shelter. it just made me want my own puppy more. but if that works for you, go for it. btw, i work, take care of kids, and travel often. i find that my chiweenie is the right pet for me. she is easy to transport, and she is always loyal to me. and i use to not like small dogs. good luck!

A puppy is a huge responsibility. Very few 15 year olds are up for it. Not only is it a lot of cleaning, training, exercising, but what about the financial end. Will you pay for its shots, spay/neuter, if it gets sick? And if you are 15 now, what do you plan to be doing in 3-4 years. Do your plans involve the dog. A puppy is a 10-15 year commitment. Think - you'll be 30. Hold off on the puppy. Volunteer at a shelter to fill your puppy fix.

Probably not going to be easy for you to hear. Your mom is probably right. If you get a puppy it will end up your moms dog. Boy friends are going to come along and the pup will take backseat. You will be to busy to feed it, mom will take care of that. You will not have time to take it for walks. Mom will not either have the time, so the dog will not get walks.
Cats are easy, they pretty much take care of themselves.
But dogs are the greatest, I have three that were supposed to be my grandsons but are mine now.
Go get a pet rat. After it running around the house for a while your mom may be ready for a dog. With cats that might not work. You could beg for a snake.

First, try proving to your mother that you're capable now. This may seem to take forever or not be working at all, but is you keep it up & lay off the puppy talk, she'll start to notice.
Additionally, consider that if you have to try to prove your ability, maybe she's right. I know this sounds kind of harsh right now, but trust me, I've been in your shoes!!!
Whatever you do, don't pull a "monkey trouble" & try to being home a new animal without your mother's permission or knowledge. More than likely she'd force the animal out of the house & with animal overpopulation the animal will more than likely end up in a bad home or killed.
