I wouldn't take it literally.. the preist at my church basically said that whole thing was just basically like a symbol or another way to show how close their relation was.
Thumbs down to the preist? Sorry for trying to help.

Here's the thing. I believe the Hebrew word used in the original manuscripts was "tsela." "tsela" means "side chamber." Basically, God did not actually take a literal rib, the bone was not used. Adam had Eve inside of him (see Genesis 5:1). To further prove that Eve was indeed inside of Adam, we must remember that Jesus was the Savior. We did not need two Saviors--one for men and one for women. Men and women were once in one body. The "side chamber" probably contained the female reproductive system, and God built Eve around these body parts. This does not mean that Adam was gay, it just means that he had the female organs inside of him, but he had the male organs on the outside. It sounds odd. If you want reliable advice for other Bible questions, I use www.gotquestions.org. Hope this helps.

Very good question that most of us do not really know the full meaning of...But the fact that God took a part out of adam to BUILD a wife for him was actually a foreshadowing of what happened to the Lord Jesus when he died on the Cross..
His side was also pierced and out of it flowed Blood and water... Blood for the purchasing of the believers and water for the imparting of His very Life to us.. these are symbolic.
In the same way Adam had his wife built by God.. the Lord Jesus said " I will build my church and the gates of hades shall not prevail against it"
Eve was the same as Adam in life and nature and as such she matched Him to be His counterpart
In like manner.. The Lord's side was pierced and what issued was HIS EVE.. the Church which we see in Ephesians ch 5 is the Bride of Christ who matches Him as His counterpart..
Upon regeneration we have been made to be partakers of the divine nature and we have the Spirit who bears witness with our spirit that we are born of God bearing His Life.
Christ actually in 1 Corinthians 15:45 is referred to as " the Last Adam"

Could have made her from a foot bone, but that would have given Adam (men) an excuse to walk all over Eve (women)....but no, God made Eve from Adam's rib, or side. You see the intent was that women should walk side by side with men, not beneath or behind them.

The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman' for she was taken out of man." Genesis 2:23 (NIV)
Eve was taken out of Adam's side so she would be his equal, his helpmate. She was not taken out of his head so that she could "lord it over him" (though this *was* part of the curse, when she disobeyed God [the only other this Hebrew word is used in the Bible is in Genesis 4:7, in regard to sin's desire to have Cain]); she was not taken out of his foot, so she could be trampled under his feet.
Hey, "Integri": If you're going to resurrect *that* old myth, you should at least get it right! According to that myth, Adam's first wife was named "Lilith"! And Cain married one of his sisters, just as Adam and Eve's son, Seth, did. The mantle or firmament was still in place, protecting the earth from harmful radiation and there were not yet any mutated genes to worry about.

I dont know for certain. However since God made her out of Adams rib she was as Adam said in Genesis 2:23 " bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." I think God wanted us to know that man is not complete without woman and vice versa . Since both were made in the image of God, they both have unique characteristics and together in marriage become complete when joined as God intended.
Thank you Lord!!!Cap'nArlo

God supposedly made Eve out of a rib so that she would submit to Adams' rule and be a part of him. One little known facts of the Bible, (part of the unofficial scriptures that were not incorporated in the King Jame's version of the Bible) is Adams' first wife, Lilah. Lilah was made an equal to Adam, but she questioned Adams'/Gods' rule and was thus banished from Eden.
It would explain a few things, if her story was incorporated in the Book of Genesis. An example being; who Cain and Abel married if they were the only humans at the time.
EDIT:
I'm not a religious person, so this is the deduction that I came up with in my religion classes with the aid of my teacher and fellow students.

"just as the rib is found at the side of the man and is attached to him, even so the good wife, the rib of her husband, stands at his side to be his helper-counterpart and her soul is bound up with his" (Cassuto p. 134 [i still cannot find out who Cassuto is or what he wrote]) this however is listed as spectulation in many commentaries and they either do not go into detail or do not discuss it at all.

I believe God wanted to show us the significance of husband and wives remaining united as one.
In other words, they should work together to meet life's challengers.

If you really want to know. Ask Him.
The Lord showed me, that there is a closeness that the two shared like no other. The example is for us to follow. Male and female. Two. We should share that oneness with each other, only the way God can do it. To be as one. What he feel, she feel also. Oneness.

It is a symbolization to the human being that each man and woman were created to be together.
That they are aren't "separated" entirely, all they have to do is meet and get to the bone ;))
It is a concept of unity and love .... men are for women and women are for men. (gay will not agree with this concept) LOL
