According to archaelogists like Jonathan Gray, this may very well be the case, as there is evidence to point to this. Did you know boats have been discovered in the most unlikely places around the world? Africa, Russia, the middle east, these ancient vessels carried the naysayers and skeptics who would be the atheists of today. However, they were proven wrong when they saw what would have been skyscraper high waves closing in on them.

Here is "one one level" of knowledge from this verse. This describes the making/creating of the atmosphere. The atmosphere contains water and the earth has water upon it. This is waters above and waters below. A canopy of water as was thought by theologians last century is an error and plain bad science.

The atmosphere may have been much denser than today and far more laden with water but a canopy - no. The early density before loss to space would have been heavy enough in water and oxygen to support some of the early forms of life that were used to develop this planet into a place humans can live.

No.

The Earth is 4.5 billion years old. Life has existed on it for about 4 billion years.

There never was a global flood, a water canopy, or an ark. It is just a variation of other myths.

This is the position of 99% of all archaeologists. Gray's arguments have been debunked several times.

You do realize that that water would still have weight even if it were in the atmosphere? Enough water to flood the world would crush every animal even if it were all clouds.

Yes.
1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
