Taylors use a number system for most of their guitars. The 100 series up to the 900 series. They differ in type of body wood (they all have spruce tops) and ornamentation. The 300s are as good as the 800s - they're just not as fancy. You've got Alvarez for a lot cheaper, and Martins for the same price. Look at www.alvarez.com.

Taylor guitars rank among the top models and I'm impressed with the 800 and 900 series acoustics. They use top woods, such as rosewood for the back and sides and the necks are superb in the ergonomics department.

I had considered them most seriously a few years ago before I bought my HD-35 Martin and the prices are comparable--$2 to $3,000. Many of the models are outfitted with the acoustic/electric capability.

Doyle Dikes, a top-notch player, endorses Taylor guitars and they are well suited for the advanced showman.
