Hi! I am a massage therapist. I have had this problem. He may have either tennis elbow or golfers elbow depending on where it hurts. Golfers elbow is more behind the arm around the elbow, and tennis elbow is more like the front side of the arm and the forearm muscles.

Massage his elbow and arm really deeply. Find the sore spots on his elbow and the surrounding muscles of the arm and push into them. Hold the pressure and have him breathe with the pain. Stay on each spot for a couple of mins. and just work the area. You can also try using a massage gel that contains Arnica, which is a natural pain reliever for sore muscles.

Icing his elbow is also essential to reduce inflammation. Do these things for the next few days, if it still hurts, go see a chiropractor. Hope he feels better!

i had that once. its called bursitis or inflammation of the bursa (a little "cushion" between the bones in your elbow. A shot of steroids in the elbow and a little rest should help.
