When you have a conversation with a girl who you feel like blowing up at because when you were mean to each other in the past, but instead you try to restrain your temper, focus on the good things about her(how hard of a worker she is etc...)are gentle with her,and give her the space she needs afterwards. She responds favorably giving you a sign of warmth peacefulness and with a bit of a smile on her face.Is this respect or integrity you showed/also is her reaction a good thing?

The first thing that you should think about is:
Is this the women I could spend the rest of my life with.
If the answer is no, then move on.
Don't ever think that you can change anything about her.
What you see now will be the same thing you will see when you are 90 years old. If you are like me and almost all other men, our needs are simple. A lot of women have not been taught how to treat a man.
Find these books, by Dr. Laura
"10 Stupid Things Men do to Mess Up Their Lives" ,and
The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands
I can tell you one thing, that if you read these two books, you will know when you have found the right woman.

Both. Respect on your part and integrity on hers. Respect from you because you are being gentle and kind to her even though you have not forgotten the nasty past the two of you showed, so you are keeping your calm and being a grown up about it. Integrity on her part, because she is accepting your reasoning and friendship even though she may want more from you. She is keeping her own sense of pride and self respect in check. You are both acting very civil and mature.

Both, though the respect is directly responsible for it. The integrity caused the respect to come forth, and her reaction was positive. Good job!

She may not like you, but she is showing respect, as are you by not blowing up at her.
