it is serious if you can't cure it for the rest of your life, but don't worry, I used to be that kind of person (used to...) okay, from my experiences, I done these things to make me feel more comfortable speaking in public:

1. do more adrenaline-need thing which will added up your confidence. Like, I usually raise my hands up in class and ask questions to the teacher. Or do it in a seminar. Do it soooo many times till you and everybody think that it's your habits.

2. at front, think of all people are NOT listening to you, so don't look at their faces personally. Try to see at the clock, or just see straigh forward like it was just you alone in the room.

3. practice practice practice speaking in the mirror.

4. at front, concern about your talking. If your hands are shaking too, bring some paper clips. IT WORKS! :D while you speak, just play with the paper clips and the shakings will much less than before. trust me.

5. It's just about how many times you done it. If somebody need someone to speak, volunteer on it. Do as many speaking in public, as you can and VERY soon, the nerveous feelings that you feel will become much less than before.

Okay, good luck... :D about those clappings things, don't worry, if you done well, people will applause more more more... :D

Hi!
Seems to me you are suffering from anxiety of public speaking, It's normal alot of people suffer from it, but it may have become worse due to your last experience this is the case with anxieties your brain now associates, the event with a negative experience, so you will feel the same reactions get stronger each time, this is your bodies way of saying don't do this!
Good news is it's not serious and you CAN get over it,
A suggestion would be that over the summer you practice speaking or reading in the mirror, (sounds korny but trust me.)
When you feel your confidence boosting, include one person, a trusted friend, or family member, See how that goes... Weekly you'll want to work your way up by adding people, and check your comfort level.
Another idea is take a drama class!!!! Besides being fun, they teach you all kinds of techniques for exactly that!
It's something great to do for the summer and will totally build your self confidence for next year!
But don't be too hard on yourself, this happens to many people and it can be overcome. GOOD LUCK!

It sounds like you have stage fright are a social disorder. Why not just be yourself who cares what other people think Its not like they are going to all jump out of there seats and kill you. If they make fun of you just laugh at them and go about your merry way. I use to be the same way everytime I had to go before the class I would just think of something funny.

When you get up in front of the class, try imagining everyone in the audience is in there underwear and the teacher is picking there nose with a banana. It sounds wierd but for some people it actually works. One other thing is pray about it before you go up pin front of the class. God will help you get through it.

here is a trick i used in school. when you get up dont look at your classmates find a spot on the back wall and keep your eyes there. if you need to look at your paper fine then go back to yor spot on the wall. I f you have a close friend there use her/him as your focal point.. works everytime.. good luck

forget about trying to present to the entire class... choose 1 person that you are very comfortable with in your class and when your presenting think as if you are talking to that one person... look directly at him/her and talk directly to him/her
