Maybe the Spirit of God is heavy in your life because you need him to be...like you need a strict parent to keep you out of trouble and living the life God intended. I would love to have the Holy Spirit heavy on my life!

As a Christian, I would say no. We, as the believers, are under grace, not law. All our sins have been forgiven and we are seen as righteous before God, not by our works, but because when He sees us, He sees Christ.

Mat 11:28 Come to Me, all those laboring and being burdened, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, "and you will find rest to your souls." Jer. 6:16
Mat 11:30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Perhaps you are an unbeliever now, but you are of the elect and God is trying to get your attention, to submit to Him, to stop fighting Him and receive the gift of salvation.
Or, perhaps you are a believer who is under conviction for some sin in your life. I am pretty confident in saying that if you were not one of His, He wouldn't bother with you. So, if God is "heavy" on you, that could be a good thing.

The Holy spirit is the one who helps us to obey God...As promised in Ezekiel 36:26-27..26) I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.27) And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws....When you love God keeping his commands is not cumbersome...it is what you want to do, however we still have a flesh and a carnal nature and unless we walk in the Spirit we will fulfill the lusts of the flesh. So my friend I say Walk in and live in the Spirit, because it is only through the Father Son and Holy spirit by which you have been sealed that you can live a Holy life. Peace

Then you need to re-examine your concept of God. Read the parable of the prodigal son. In that story, the father allows the son to go his way, make his mistakes, and waits with love and longing for him to return, when he does, the father runs to him, and throws a party because he has returned. He doesn't lecture or punish, even though the son has squandered everything. God is a God of love and grace, who loves us as we are. Did you know that in Hebrew the word for salvation also means something like "breathing space," room to breathe? Paul also talks about our freedom in Christ. If you are going to a strict, conservative church, find one that celebrates the God of love and isn't so oppressive.

Oh, yeah. Growing up, my parents were really strict & so that was how I always pictured God. This Person who was just waiting for me to mess up so that He could say 'I told you so' or punish me. It took a long time for me to realize that He is my Heavenly Parent, but that unlike my physical parents, He loves me unconditionally!

Then, for a while, even as a Christian, I felt so unworthy as a person that I thought that I wasn't even good enough to talk to Him; just like sometimes I have a hard time talking to my parents. I knew that He loved me so much, & I felt that I wasn't good enough. But then I had to remember the story of the Prodigal Son. Do you know that one? If not, email me & I'll fill you in.

Anyway, I had to remember that God loves me so much, & that He was waiting for me to come back, just like perfect parents would be, so that He could show me how much He loves me. So, I put my stupid pride down, admitted that I had screwed up AGAIN & prayed & asked Him to forgive me for being so stupid & living like I didn't belong to Him! Wow, has life gotten better.

If you feel you are under control like that and you say God is in your life, you are living it wrong. You are just doing the motions because you think you should, not because you love Him enough to just DO it. If what you say is true, you should examine your relationship with Him and see if you have slid a little, it might be time to catch up and get back into where you need to be.

i can't relate. most people don't think of G-d like that. unfortunately you are suffering from a syndrome that afflicts many religious people. many people are only taught about G-d as a child, and once they grow up nobody ever really discusses G-d or faith with them anymore, and so, even as adults, they are stuck with only that child's way of understanding and relating to G-d. in order to help your own concept of G-d develop into a healthier and more fulfilling one, you should visit your religious institution's library and read some more advanced writings about the subject and nature of G-d.

Yes, but at the same time, strict parents want you to grow up and make decisions not based on fear of them.

Jesus said,

Matthew 11:30
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
