There is no miracle exercise that will burn the fat off a specific area. It will burn off from your entire body. You need to burn more calories than you consume. Aerobic activities 3 to 4 days a week. Work your way up to 1 hour per session.

Activities like running / jogging / swimming are the highest burners. Consider it that you have to move your entire mass. Cycling is less intense, as it is a very efficient means of transferring energy into motion.

The objective is to do the activity for 1 hour.

Alternate the days so that you are not constantly doing the same routine. Mix in a day with some light weights, or other sports that you like.

Bring some music so you can jam to it.

And most importantly, stretch... your body will appreciate it.

Better diet.
More fruits and veggies. These are considered low calorie yet filling.
Less complex processed sugars. Fruits and veggies are natural sugars.
Leaner meats: chicken / pork / fish. Less beef, its high in fat.
Less fats: Knock out the deep fried foods, chips, cookies.

Reduce alcohol. It prevents your body from burning fat. Skip the beer its high in carbs. Very hard to do when you're sponsored by a brewing company. =)

More water, less sodas, that including diet sodas. Natural fruit juices and reduced fat milks are good for you, as long as they do not contain complex sugars, like high fructose corn syrup. Anything containing high fructose corn syrup, run away!

Do not eat full meals within 4 hours of going to sleep. It just goes right to fat. Realistically your dinner should be a very light meal, but satisfying.

I have late night hockey games, so I'll often have just a fruit smoothie as part of my late night snack.

If you have creamer with your coffee, that's a source of fat right there.

Instant oatmeal is high in sugar.

etc... the list goes on.

Natural foods = good: Processed foods = bad

Look at a grocery store. The healthy stuff is located around the edges of the store, while the majority of the processed foods are in the aisles.

Its not easy, and it takes a lot of work. But you feel a lot better after a week. The average weight loss is about 3-4 lbs a month. Anything beyond that, and you might be pushing yourself into a yo-yo diet.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and it burns fat all over your body- do it 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
