I've noticed in some places that it is not considered a bad thing to 'put down' a Pagan or Athiest for their beliefs, but anyone who insults a Christian could get reported or have conversion attempts.
Why is that?

I think if you look carefully, you will find that goes both ways.
Those who insult, and those who report merely because they are personally offended, are both showing signs of immaturity. Then again, I notice a lot of teenagers and children participate here (many making excellent contributions), so I shouldn't be everyone to act like a 50 year old.
EDIT:
I notice a couple of illustrations of my point among these answers - from both the Christian and the non-Christian point of view. It is really silly.
EDIT AGAIN:
I have been reported at least 3 times in the last year, and I don't think I could be accused of being deliberately offensive, although I will admit to using sarcasm at times.

Well, I am a Christian....I do not report, block or cause anyone to be dismissed from class...... I do not complain about being persecuted or bashed. I also do not disrespect others and have even honored those with different beliefs than mine....yet I am firm in my convicitons and do defend the Gospel of Jesus Christ......If that makes me a bad guy....Guilty.

It is not alright to put down anyone else...regardless of their beliefs....and especially not for their beliefs. It is insulting and disrespectful of who they are as human beings.
We are all the same and have fallen far short of what God hopes for us.

You said: "...in some places". Where are these places? Have you personally seen/heard the insults or 'put-downs'?
How might we, your reading public, right this wrong?

Because, some people take things to far. They don't realized that everyone have different beliefs. And we are all entitled to believe how ever we want.

Because Christians are insecure and unable to handle anything outside their religions. Let's face it - they believe in immaculate conception - enough said.
