I have 3 cockatiels. One is tame and I'd like to keep it that way. The other two aren't. They don't enjoy being around people and I feel bad for them. So, what would you think of putting the two untame birds (male and female) together in a big aviary and my tame boy in a cage so he can have more attention. The two untame birds would be the only ones in the aviary. I don't mind if they breed. If they show signs of wanting to breed, I can put my nesting box with them. I raised and handfed the tame male and know what I'm doing. It is highly unlikely they will breed, though. What is you opinion on this arrangement? Do you see anything wrong with it?

thats a good idea, and the sooner the better. I put a tame cockatiel in with an untame one and soon my tame 'tiel wanted nothing to do with me..just make sure she gets lots of loving, and the 2 untame should still get some attention too (even if its just talking to them) If you decide to get another tiel for your tame bird, get a baby so you can tame her as well.

I feel your pain. We had 2 cockatiels that were both very tame and when one passed we bought 2 more to keep the one left behind from mourning. Well, now all 3 of them would rather spend time with each other then with my husband and I. So, I don't think there is anything wrong with you separating the 2 from the 1, as long as you are prepared to give the single one a lot of extra love and attention.

I never realized what people meant when they said if you want a bird to bond with you just buy 1. Don't get me wrong I love my birds dearly but it kind of sucks when you aren't part of their pack. It's like high school all over. LOL

Your idea of the untame in avairy & tame in a cage is a good idea.

This way all 3 birds do get what they want. Don't feel bad for the untame 2. They've just bonded with one another instead of you.

Sounds fine to me, as long as you give the tame one lots of attention he'll be fine. I have a tame one and an untamed one, and they live together in one cage and my tame one is still loving because I handle him a lot.

i admire all styles of cockatiels. I very own the conventional gray ones, albino ones and pied one and a few pied yellow chop up ones. they're all gorgeous of their very own way. I very own 12 cockatiels and have suitable now 10 eggs and 3 babies.

I think it is a good idea. Just hope they do not breed.
Too many birds is...too many birds. Give all your love to your baby, the one you raised.
