I have a 1 year old jack russell terrier puppy and she's had her 1st heat back at the end of February. I was wondering if anyone knows how long between heats. We're going on vacation in the middle of August and our sitter doesn't want to watch the dogs if the pup is in heat again. Our male jack russell humps everything in sight when she was in heat and it's not very fun being around if you're not it's "parents" I guess. Is there a way to predict it?! I just kinda want to be prepared here. Help if you can.
Thanks!

we're still deciding if we're going to breed her or not...plus it was in the purchasing agreement from the breeder we bought her from...that's why we're not getting her fixed yet.

Unspayed dogs go into heat every 6-7 months so there's a possibility she may be in heat when you're planning to go on vacation.

you should attend yet another a million year 3 mos at very least until now you breed her.. except you prefer to possibility having to for out for a c-section, hand feeding doggies each 2 hours for a pair of weeks, and a mom that refuses to look after and instruct the doggies something, you should attend til she is a minimum of two years of age. Do you have good properties for 12 doggies if she has a brilliant muddle?

I have a Golden Retriever and no, it's not fun even if you are the parent! LOL! My dog had her first heat last July and again in April of this year. So, I think you are ok for severl more months. I don't know the "rule" but I think their cycle is around 9 months long.

Usually every 6 months. If your planning a mid august vaction, your dog might be in heat.

average is 6 months.. some dogs can go longer between heat cycles, some have shorter spans.

Get her spayed and you wont have to worry about heat cycles anymore. Spaying greatly reduces the risk of cancer.

They come in season about every 6 months, so she could very well be in, or come in to season during your vacation.

Have her spayed now, and she'll have plenty of time to recover before then. : )
