TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran Tuesday refused to rule out using oil supplies as a weapon in the standoff over its nuclear programme, saying Washington had never excluded attacking the Islamic republic.

"When the Americans say that using the military option against Iran regarding its nuclear issue is not off the table then Iran can say that it will not put aside the instrument of oil," Iran's representative to OPEC, Hossein Kazempour Ardebili, said in an interview with the Shargh newspaper.

Asked where Iran's "red line" on using oil as a weapon lay, he replied: "The red line lies where the Americans fail to say that using military means against Iran is illegal."

"We will not be the first to use our instrument but if the others do not put aside their pressure instruments in the negotiations, then it is natural both sides talk about their instruments," he added.

Well they stole British soldiers and then lied and expected the UK to apologise for the criminal activity of Iran

Now apparently they want more - just as any blackmailer would

They want the US to promise not to use military force -

The republic of Iran's actions must deepen the idea that they must never be allowed anything more sophisticated than a match book yet they persist

What is the appropriate response to blackmail ?

If Iran wishes nuclear reactors for peace then I say let them have it

As long as it is run built guarded and supervised completely by a combined force of British and American personel -

If this can not be met then I will assume they are liars and the work is for another purpose

This would be my offer - Just before I invaded and took the oil by force and suggested blackmail isn't a good idea

People will stay believing what they are comfortable with. The more you talk, the more they will stick to their guns for reasons they don't even know. the more they defend their beliefs, the harder it will be to change. Why waste time on the ignorant?

They speak loudly because they have no stick. They owe Russia $$$$$$$$$. I have read that China is their biggest customer for oil. China is providing weapons, probably not for free. King Abdullah would probably nuke them if he had the weapon. Israel will and has the weapon. They have NATO to the East and US on the west. Ski boats with machine guns make up the bulk of their Navy. Their Air Force is not much larger than what 1 US Carrier packs. The working Air Force requires parts from Russia and China, I will guess the terms are COD. They have to import gasoline. They can't build homes that withstand 4.0 earthquakes and we are worried about these morons making a working nuke. If they are twice as smart as N. Korea they will build a nuclear hand grenade. The best N. Korea did was a nuclear firecracker.

THEY SPEAK LOUDLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO STICK

Their war face does not scare me.

Where's the blackmail part? Is there a big government secret that isn't supposed to get out? I think you meant something similar to "good old fashioned extortion," using human life though instead of monetary sums.

Not blackmail, more like a hostage situation, where oil is the hostage.
(Blackmail being someone threatening to reveal something incriminating about you unless you give them what they want.)

In a hostage situation, the best policy is negotiation and patience, unless lives are in immediate danger.

Ummmm...it sucks... but...

It's THEIR oil. They can sell it or not, for whatever reason they want.

If situations were reversed your response would be, "Hell, yeah." and we all know it. This time we're just on the s**t end of the proposition.
