Every thought and emotion you have is controlled by your brain. There is no separate entity or "spirit" inhabiting your body. Why do you still believe there is, when it has been proven there is not?

"Yes, people acknowledge that the brain is involved in mental life. But they still think of it as a pocket PC for the soul, managing information at the behest of a ghostly user.
Modern neuroscience has shown that there is no user. "The soul" is, in fact, the information-processing activity of the brain."

I don't believe in the soul, because there is no evidence that anything when it comes to thoughts and emotions occurs outside of chemical reactions in the brain.

First of all (and i am an atheist) science has not proved there s no such thing as a soul. HOWEVER... the advances in neuroscience, and psychology demonstrate that it is highly unlikely that such a thing as a soul does exist.
I do not believe that there are such things as souls. There is no clear definition of what a soul actually is that is agreed upon by all of the people who believe in it's existence. Though this is not any proof of it's existence or nonexistence it certainly does make it difficult to find out what to be looking for. The idea of a soul is simply what Animism has evolved into at this point in time.

By definition, the soul is spiritual, and not physical. The soul requires the mind to interect within the material world. Ergo, the soul sits in the mind (as the mind is the seat of the soul). You cannot seperate the soul from the mind, and so you can not physically distinguish them. Once the soul is separated from the mind, the body dies. Ergo no physical evidence can be found to distinguish the mind and soul. The soul is above scientific definition, and discourse concerning the soul rests in the realm of theology and philosophy.
The function of a car is determined by the combined efforts of its component parts, and yet it also has a driver (that sometimes resides within the car). Without the driver, the car does not function, and so no test of the car's gross function can be carried out without an operating driver.
Your statement is factually incorrect. Neuroscientists have made no such statement concerning the soul. Your present opinion is that there is no soul.

Science cannot prove that there is not a soul.
Science can only attempt to prove things in the physical world. Christians believe, that the soul and spirit leave the body at death, and live on in Heaven with the Lord. We also believe, that we will be reunited with our love ones who died before us. How else would we recognize one another,if our spirits did not resemble our physical bodies & our soul (mind, will, & emotions) couldn't process this?

If science and religion are non-overlapping, there is no way for science to do this. The Big Bang starts with nothing...then there was something. Where did all the Energy and Matter come from? You realize that the sudden appearance of Energy and Matter is a suspension of the Law of Conservation of Energy (and Matter by Corollary), also known as the 1st Law of Thermodynamics. Wait! I just used Science to prove there is a God.

I'm unaware of any studies that have been done to show that something which isn't of substance, like a soul, in fact isn't real at all. I can't say that there is proof of this... although you may enlighten me with resources if you'd like.
I do agree with you that the likelihood of an existing spiritual-self, that which is said to be the soul and that which will benefit the most from the "rewards of after-death life" according to some beliefs, is probably false.
Lets see what the believers have to say...

Oh really it has been? Could you state a reference please? Give us some book or website that will show where you got this information? Besides surely you, as a man of science, would know that it is nearly impossible to prove a negative. You may not BELIEVE in a "soul" but that does not mean there is no such thing, it only means there is no such thing for you. Lack of proof does not equal lack of existence. Besides if the brain controls the body what controls the brain?

The link you gave does not show that science has "proven" anything. It is simply a psychologist giving his opinion and theory. If everything is controlled simply by the brain, why is each individual unique. Why aren't we like robots, each reacting the same to a set of data?

Science has not "proven" there is not a "soul". It's like you're saying that science as "proven" that there's no life after death because dead bodies have no brain activity.

The soul is a Platonic concept, and describes an abstract category. Of course it exists - by definition, it is the sum of all non-corporeal human elements (regardless of their physical sources). The further back in time you go, the more convinced people were that the soul was the result of physical processes.
