We just had a small flash flood and my rabbit was up to his paws in water before I got to him. I dried him off gave him fresh water, food, and hay and made sure his hutch was dry. Is there anything else I should have done? Are there any sicknesses or dieases I need to worry about because he got wet? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

You probably shouldn't bathe her, I remember from 4-H that that can make rabbits sick, they're not like other pets (cats/dogs, ect.) baby wipes were a good idea. As for what's wrong with her, I'm sorry, but I couldnt tell you. If shes acting weird in other ways, going to see a vet would be the best idea. Also, we sometimes call the vet before going and ask if they think the problem is serious or not, that way you might save some money. P.S.- sometimes lots of raw veggies can give rabbits diarrea, so if you've been giving her alot lately, that could be the problem.

It happened to my rabbit too. Our back veranda floods if it rains heavy all at once. It was raining and i checked on her and everything was still dry. I checked 10-15 minutes later and her bowl was floating in water. Inside where she sleeps her hay was wet. I put on high heel shoes and went and got her. Apart from drying the hutch there is nothing you can do. My rabbit was fine. if you are concerned you could ring a vet and they could tell you signs to look for if your rabbit isn't okay dur to the water he was in. I am guessing you may be worried your rabbit will catch a cold or inhaled water into his lungs. You could discuss this with your vet. I am sure vets have heard everything and they would be the ones with the best advice.

Just make sure you dried your rabbit out good and make sure not to put the rabbit in a cold breeze.

The main thing you have to worry about is the rabbit contracting pneumonia. Pneumonia typically occurs in rabbits when they are left exposed to the wind. If the rabbit is wet it increases those chances. If you dry the rabbit off, keep cool wind off it while it is drying, and keep it warm till it is dry you should be ok.

Just watch how your rabbit breathes for the next day or two. If you see your rabbit breathing hard deep breaths or making a rasping noise then take it to a veterinarian right away.

If his hutch has wooden parts check them thoroughly over the next few days to make sure all has dried out and there is no mold growing. Toxic mold spores can result from flooding and in a worse case scenario you might have to replace the wooden parts. Metal shouldn't rust but if it does, scour it with a sandblaster or a Brillo pad, wipe it, and paint the metal with a non-toxic waterproof sealer. Call your vet or local animal control group to find safe brands of sealer. Good Luck!

He'll be fine. If he's cold, bring him indoors and keep him warm. Shock would probably be the only thing that may affect him which is serious but if he's warm, dry, eating and going to the toilet as normal, then he'll be okay.

Rearrange his house though and make sure he is off the ground away from damp surfaces. Weather-proof his housing with a roof and verandah and give him a solid wooden floor and an area he can escape from bad weather and keep warm & dry.

He only got wet. Keep him dry and watch him over the next few days. If he appears to be doing well then don't worry. If he starts to get lethargic take him to the Vet.

hamsters can get something called wet tail but i think it will go away. Your rabbit should be fine, what do you think rabbits in the wild do when it rains? they must get wet sometimes. but just keep him dry just incase ;)
