Firstly you should determine your body mass index (BMI) using a BMI calculator from one of the following sites:
www.keepkidshealthy.com/welcome/bmicalculator.html
www.mayoclinic.com/health/bmi-calculator/NU00597
Our you could search for others on google. Well after you determine your BMI if you are overweight you know that it is safe to lose weight but if your underweight chances are you are better off gaining the weight that you so desired to lose.
I don't want to sound like your mom but a first and easy step a 14 year old in this era can do to lose weight is to put down the video games that is spend more time taking part in more physical activities than playing games. Just putting down the game however won't result in a magical weight loss,if you don't currently do a sport I would advise you to find one that you think is fun and take part in it.
If all this fails dieting plus jogging around the neighborhood should work though they might not be as fun as the others i recommended but as all exercise plans say at the end ensure to check with a physician first before taking part in any strenuous physical activities.

dont look at the scale - it doesnt tell you how fit you are and how high is your body fat percentage - its just a number.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Well this is my 4th post in 15 minutes, lol. Feel free to look at my other's in case I miss out info....

EATING RIGHT.
- Count how many grams of sugar you eat a day. Cut it down by 40%.
- No Hershey's product, Skittles, Lolypops, etc. (candy - gone)
- No soda except every 4 days or longer.
- If you drink iced tea, no more than 1 cup a day.
- Avoid cereal - unless Special K, Total, or other healthy brands.
- Eat lots of fruit. I know it's like eating air - but eat a banana, some toast, grapes, milk/coffee... you'll be full.
- Use Splenda in coffee. No fat, no grams of sugar too.
- Try to work out 30 minutes a day. Lift weights one day... and walk, jog, bicycle, use tredmill... those days you don't lift weights.

It helps to keep in contact with someone. Tell them what you eat, what activities you did... lemmie know if you need more help!

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.

Smaller portions, eat very slowly, drink water and MOVE and I don't mean over to the computer. You will have to walk, run, jog burn more calories than you take in. It's the only way.

I think you should always eat what you want, but always in small proportions, drink at least 2 litters of water everyday and do some exercise at least every other day
