Has anyone had any problems with their newer model Saturns ('04 and up). It seems that the newer ones might be built a little better. I'm also curious what type of prices you all paid on new ones. I'm sure no matter what this will vary. I am looking at the ION 2 with no additional extras other than an automatic transmission.

Saturn has a "no-haggle" pricing system so the only discount you will get off the sticker price would be a manufacturer rebate. It looks like the ION currently has a $1000 rebate. An ION 2 with no options except an automatic transmission comes out to $13,790, so minus the rebate it comes to $12,790.

However, I would strongly recommend the ABS & traction control package for $400, both for safety and because it'll help the resale value.

I'd also recommend the "Preferred Package" for $995 as it gives you keyless entry, cruise control, and power windows (most option packages are pretty frivalous but honestly I don't think I could live without any of these options).

These two packages would raise the price to $14,185 before tax & titling -- still pretty good for a brand new car.

They're getting rid of it in 2008. It will be replaced by the Astra. I would recommend not getting it because resale values will be beyond shitty. Besides, who wants a discontinued car?
