I think probably most Atheists and Christians respect each other, there's just more cyber-cat fights here!

You can't change other people's minds! The minute you try, it doesn't matter if the real Elvis is standing right in front of you with Priscilla holding his driver's license up to prove it .... people will still say he's dead! What we can hope to do though is express to others what motivated us to choose the ideas we've embraced and maybe tell good our choices make us feel.

There is respect between some atheists and some Christians. A good example? The recent formal debate on Hugh Hewitt's radio show between Christopher Hitchens and Hewitt's minister.

A full three hours and very civilized.

Lets be honest here, most people on answers want to tag Christians as mind raping ******* and that they have no good intentions whatsover. I can honestly say that I have seen countless users with their q and A log doin absoulutley nothing but bashing on christianity. If people really wanted to be peaceful they would spend their lives whining about how messed up christianity is when they arent christians themselves. MOst are gonna say iam full of bull. BUt I know and they know that alot of people out their only squable cuz either A) it turns them on sexualy, B) or are obsessed with trying to turn a majority to a minority C) trying to justify to themsleves why they do not believe. I honestly dont believe half of these proclaimed athiests legitmatly force their disbeleif on others they are just addicted to B%$##ing.

I think atheists and Christians can respect each other. But I do not think they will ever agree. That would be stupid for both parties. Why? They believe two opposite things. One believes there is a God who became man and came to earth. The other believes there is no God.

Can't get more opposite than that really...

Defending one's belief and discussing important life issues can certainly be done with respect one to another. Respecting each other does not imply however never disagreeing with each other...this can be accomplished without name calling or by using obvious and ridiculous generalizations of each other. I, personally, have openly as well as by e-mail,honored a few from the Atheist camp. And I personally have received nice words from the other camp as well. Respect to me is acknowledging another's worthas a human being and even honoring that person on occasion.

The few who come here to bait and bash others sort of ruin it for everyone, I think.
But, to answer your question:
Yes, I do think that, on an individual basis, Christians and atheists can respect one another.
There are atheists here who are as honestly concerned that I not waste my life looking forward to an afterlife that they are sure is not coming as I am honestly concerned that they not waste their lives without making reservations for that same afterlife.
Then there are those who are just p i s s e d because the law won't let them do something they want to do, and they want to blame it on Christians.
*shrugs*
Everyone has the right to vote as they believe is right.
There are laws that don't allow me to do what I want to do.
Should I blame that on all atheists?

I think so. Individually, I think most of us get along. Most of my family and lots of my friends are Christian, and we love each other very much. There may always be some tension between the groups, but so long as people agree to live and let live, we'd be fine.

Absolutely. I'm an atheist who truly enjoys insulting the up tight Jesus freaks. The truly devout who can understand the principle of "live and let live" will get my respect every time. It's the unyielding, holier than thou jerks who I have no respect for.

Sure! I respect lots of Christians on here. In private we email back and forth about each others lives. It's great. You just have to ignore the haters and concentrate on the people who don't engage in that.
