It really depends on what Type of surgery you had... I had my appendix out last year by way of arthroscopic surgery and was told not to do more than I felt I could handle...
NO HEAVY LIFTING FOR ABOUT A MONTH... but other than that I was permitted to go back to life as I knew it...
but if your doctor has specific concerns then he should share them with you... ask him specifically about the exercise you want to do... and see what he says...
Listen to your doctor tho... he knows your medical history... the month will pass and then you can go back to your routine
Good luck and Heal Quickly

Walking will be great for you, there is no reason to feel like you should have to do more :)
On average you can start really excercising again after about two and a half to six weeks, if you feel up to it.
Something relaxing such as yoga or pilates if you feel comfortable doing those types of aerobics, they are great for helping to heal faster as well. Getting the blood flowing.
My suggestion would be to start walking or even using a treadmill or pedal stepper and over time just start doing more such as holding light weights, etc. :)

If your surgeon said only walking, then only walk. I'm no doctor but I would imagine you'd want to do nothing to put any kind of strain on the area where the surgery took place.
Take your doc's advice. You don't want to do something wrong because somebody on Y!A told you to...your doc is a Doctor because s/he went to medical school for years. Don't mess around with your health.
You'll be able to do more before long...have patience. That month will fly by.

Your body needs time to heal after major surgery. Besides, you don't want to bust yout stitches before they are able to do their job holding things together. Do what you doctor says and stick to walking for now.

I would suggest listening to a medical expert. Unless you really want to exercise, than maybe you could take the random advice of a stranger from Yahoo Answers.

General walking around and doing your chores yes. But you have to wait until the incision heals.

Nope. Just take it easy for a month. That's not that long. You need time to heal, walking excessively can do more damage.
