I'm near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other (have been my entire life) and have been wearing LINELESS biofocals for over 20 years.

I've also been wearing eyeglasses for 42 years now.

I saw a thing on TV yesterday where they've got a new artificial lens that can be put in the eye ... takes about 20 minutes they said ... and is supposed to act like the lens in a normal eye that doesn't need glasses ... think they said it would suit people who wear bifocals or who have cateracts ... some guy had it done and he recons it is great ... not sure if its available to everyone yet but maybe worth asking someone who would know.

I'm 44, nearsighted, and wear progressives (invisible bifocals). I have worn them for about five years now.

Without them I can't read well with my regular vision glasses and can't wear contacts; so progressives were the answer.
Once you get used to them (takes an hour or less), they are a godsend.

Try progressives.

Progressive lenses would probably work for you. They contain three different focal points that mimic your natural vision. I know the prospect of wearing glasses may not appeal to you, but frame styles are so much better now, you should be able to find one that fits your personality and style. Good luck!

Lineless bifocals. They make glasses for every type of eye. It is 2007.

Varilux, my dear. In polycarbonate.
I am 45, I have these, they are super thin, they look like a light reading prescription unless you put them on.
Go to Pearle Vision, if they are in your area; if not, go to varilux.com, they can help you find a provider in your area.

I chose a very stylish frame, and I don't look old at all!
