Trying to use a curling iron. I wrapped a section of my hair around it and held it on my hair until it felt hot. There is no curl in the hair. What the heck?

You need to use a curl enhancing, heat activated product. Then wrap your hair around a good quality curling iron, once it is hot. After the curl is made, spray it with hair spray. Dont leave your hair on the iron too long but, or you will burn it.

You don't mention if you wanted spirals or just curls. Make sure your hair is clean and dry. Put in some kind of product in your hair like mousse, gel or heat activated curling spray, take a small section and wrap your hair around the iron. For spirals hold the iron at a 45 degree angle. Keep hair wrapped around the iron for about 15 sec, but if that doesn't take rewrap and hold for another 30 seconds, once you take it off the iron and the curl takes shape spray hair spray to maintain its curl. I prefer hot curlers than the curling iron only because it faster to make curls, you get less burns on your skin and your arms don't get tired from holding the iron.

Your hair probably isn't the best texture for holding curl. But thank goodness for hair products... If I were you I would definitely buy a bottle of "Redken Hot Sets 22 Thermal Setting Mist". This works the best because the heat of the curling iron activates the product and helps it hold very nicely.
Make sure that you separate your hair into small sections, spray the product on one section and immediately curl it up in the iron before it dries. This is always how i get long lasting curls. Good Luck!

Sometime people are surprized that scrunching can add wave to their hair. I use either Fructis curl shaping spray or aussie scrunch spray. Just a hint...lean over with your head pointing toward the ground then spray short sprits in hair while scrunch hair in your hand towards your scalp. Keep doing this until you hair has some wavy definition. If you have a diffuser at the end of yur hairdryer use that too while your head is down and your scrunching...Just a thought.

you should try using less conditioner, or no conditioner in your hair at all (if you use conditioner). this way, your hair wont be silky and smooth , therefore letting the curls stay in longer. also try using less hair in the curling iron. oh, and if you have a big curling iron, try a smaller one. on my hair, the big ones don't work, but the smaller ones do. hope i helped.

you got to wrap your hair all arouund it, keep on coiling until yo get to your scalp, but don't touch it just get really close, keep the iron plugged in. Count to 30 then open the iron and pull it horizontally away from your hair and POOF a curl!

You have to curl you hair in small sections. and try hair spray cause that will hold the curl in. but spray the hair spray on before you curl that section.

Good Luck

Get a heat activated styling product. They sell mousse, gel, and sprays. Use that and take thinner sections of hair. Hold to the count of 10-20.

is your hair naturaly straight then it wont work as well first get moose or gel put into palm of hand then brush through hair with soft brush then try if that dosent work use wet hair in curlers with the sponge or hot rods they get up to 200 degres and they will make a nice loop and curve to your hair if for crimpt use moose and hairspray flip your head towel dry hair first then run fingers through hair and squeese together in odd ways and it will make hard little curls

Perhaps you have too much hair at once in the iron, second, before you wrap it up in the iron, give it a little spritz of hairspray and you will be amazed
