It's fine to drive barefoot. In spite of persistent myths, there are NO laws against driving barefoot. Unfortunately, this myth is so common that even some cops believe it... but everyone who believes this please see source and stop spreading this falsity.
Also, some cops are convinced it's unsafe and even though they know it's not illegal may try to write you up for unsafe or reckless driving, however please see the second and third link in the source, for two sites (one from the Michigan PD, one from an Australian newspaper) making it clear that driving barefoot is no more unsafe than many types of footwear that are regularly worn and could even be considered safer than many kinds of shoes.

To answer your question, there are ZERO states that have laws on this. People have written to all 50 states and Canada trying to find a Statute code for this. Not one state ever wrote back stating it was a law.

For any cops that might read this: Please share a Statute number for this. You would need a code number for such an offense?

Any ticket that is written for this should be fought, as there are no laws on this. There are Urban Myth type TV shows that have even shown this to be a "myth" on their shows!

Needmore proof, go to pedolgroup.com, barefooters.org, AAA.com, or logon to Yahoo or Google and look it up!

OK to be honest yes this is a law. You have to wear shoes while driving a motor vehicle but more than likely they wont do anything about it! I have never heard about someone going to jail over something like that the most that could happen is the cop would write you a ticket and you would report in front of a judge and just say sorry it wont happen again!

It is my understanding that this was once the law in CA, but it is NOT the law today - and, in my experience, it has not been for the 16 years I have been in law enforcement.

In CA you may drive barefoot.
