Some confusing in the last one, i am FOR tattoos. Relgion says no marks or cuts FOR THE DEAD. also says, no mirrors or piercings. No interracial marriage. No pork. You may not wear a garment made of two different fabrics. And, my fave, if a man is troubled GIVE HIM A STRONG DRINK!!!
But, so why are tattoos, body piercings and body modifacations so frowned upon?

change is slow to come. not too long ago many of the other points you brought up were taboo as well. there are many people who are against tattoos and you just have to smile and be an example of a perfectly normal person who has tattoos. there are many stereotypes that need to be broken.

People made up the term "tramp stamp" not to long ago to name the lower back piece.....and lower back pieces have been done many years before that.
But since it's the thing to do, now everyone is saying it......except the tattoo artist.
So, it doesn't surprise me at all, that people would believe in a 2000 year old story that has been changed thousands of times......they pick what they like and put down the things they don't.

Some old school people believe this. I think it is more due to their raising. The verse is in Levitcus and is instruction to the Levi priests of ancient Israel. Christians are not under that old law but under the law of Grace and Love. There is a wonderful website for the Christian Tattoo Association with lots of posts on the subject.

What do you mean some confusion - what did I miss?
Now this is a good question (because it's different).
People like to pick and choose from the Bible. That's why. If they want to be so strict as to the whole markings/temple thing then they need to stay strict to it all. But that's not convenient.

Oddly enough, there are a ton of people in the Bible with both piercings and tattoos.

It's funny, I'm an atheist, and I've read the Bible cover to cover. I run into the "Christians" who are proclaiming these things that are so radically untrue it's rediculous. I wonder sometimes if they've ever OPENED the Bible.

I personally think religion is a waste of time so screw what religion says. I'm not going to do or not do something because someone says a book that nobody even knows who even wrote says I should.

Because your body is God's temple and when you hurt it(tattoos) you are not taking care of God's temple. I also think it depends where you pierce. But I am for piecing mostly.
