There is no such thing as "Bible" only Christians. They read commentaries, and other books, which are written with a personal opinion, and they listen to their pastor's personal interpretation.
But to answer your question - yes, that is hypocritical.

i don't know if they are hypocrites, stubborn or just both. no offence to our seperated brothers and sisters in christ but they really need to get past seeing things in black and white and open their eyes. in this particular instance, saying we can't depict jesus as we don't know exactly what he looks like then picture books should not be permissable on any level, truth be told we don't really know what a great deal of what the majority of figures in the bible actually looked like so it can even go further............ artists throughout the centuries such as michealangio, rapheal donatello(sp?on all) have created beuatiful art based on religious figures and themes as have many others, they are perhaps the best art available and although they simply could never show the height of glory intended they are for us fairly close and call to minds many great events and persons in salvation history. did your evangelical friend watch passion of the christ or does he watch some of the older movies about jesus? by his premise these movies shouldn't be allowed either.

Well, we don't know what a LOT of things are on this planet but it doesn't stop us from trying to come to grips with them by giving them names, images and/or descriptions does it?
Children can't think abstractly, so we give them an image. As they grow and learn the parents are *suppose* to keep teaching them and give them deeper understanding of difficult concepts and ideas. When they grow up they should be ok with the idea that Jesus may not look as depicted in all the pictures they have seen.
That is not, or should not be a great leap in thought to accept. As kids grow they may be told about family members they've never met or seen pictures of either, but that doesn't stop the family from talking about that person.
And for all we know....Jesus may, in fact appear to us all just exactly as we picture Him. Probably not, but He can do anything! In reality tho I don't think we would doubt who He is when we see Him.

the place did the trinity come from? a set of guys on the request of a pagan flesh presser desperate to usurp the scriptures and create their own God. In transforming into this fake God, they made the alternative to call any who disagreed with it a heretic or perhaps kill to confirm the truths of God never got here out. in spite of the shown fact that the real God had different plans and observed to it the truths approximately him have been prevalent in the time of the earth. Now, Jehovah's Witnesses verify all be attentive to who Jehovah is and that he's not part of a pagan trinity. thousands and thousands are grateful for that and desire others will see the easy quickly.

i think that adults tend to focus more on the image than children. like i know this lady that whenever she goes past a statue of Jesus she bows. Plus adults dont need an image to understand the message children in the other hand need an image to understand the concept most of the time.

I wouldn't label someone a hypocrite, even if I thought they were, because I'm pretty sure I would be judging if I did. Anyway... everyone lives by their convictions, and we each have standards and limits. I don't agree with them, but I respect their right to have their convictions. And most importantly they're doing it for God, even if their convictions are questionable.

I think they have lost sight of the fact that the past where most people were illiterate was not that long ago. In approx. 1800 years since Jesus life most people were illiterate and sacred art was their Bible.

In my opinion, his image/color/creed etc matters not. What matters is the message. God is everything to us all, so we can imagine or hold on to him being whatever physical traits we choose to, but bottom line is that is a minor issue, in the bigger picture.
My concern is that my kids understand the message.
