They are similar in that they both relieve pain, and both reduce fever.
They differ because Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, and
Acetominophen [ Tylenol ] isn't.
Too much Ibuprofen will damage your kidneys, but too much Acetominophen will damage your liver.
Ibuprofen is more likely to upset your stomach, so take with food.
I have seen very few people allergic to Acetominophen, but
several allergic to Ibuprofen.
Ibuprofen is not recommended for pregnant women, because it can prolong bleeding time.
Follow recommended dosage for both.

They are used for two different types of pain/problems. Tylenol is an analgesic where as Ibuprofen is an antinflammatory. If your pain is a headache then Tylenol will probably help. If you have arthritis Ibuprofen will probalby help as it decreases the swelling. Ask youself if the pain is cause by some kind of inflammation, use Tylenol if it's not. Sometimes they are used together for certain injuries too. Think of a sports injury. The ibuprofen will control the sweeling and the tylenol will help the pain. Ice is a more effective antinflammatory however. If you take both together, alternate every two hourse Tylenol, then two hours later Ibuprofen then two hours again Tylenol.. up to the daily maximum dose. Hope this helps.

ibuprofen is a pain reducer and reduces inflammation as well as fever reducer, tylenol, can easily cause liver damage if consumed while some alcohol is in the system. What does that say for the livers sensitivity to tylenol? Ibuprofen all the way baby.

On a weight basis, ibuprofen is stronger. Notice that extra strength advil (ibuprofen) is 200 mg and Tylenol is 500 mg. They work just about the same, but ibuprofen is stronger by about 2.5 times b/c less of it is required for the same purpose, which I presume is pain-treatment.

Both are equally effective for pain relief. But if the pain is accompanied by inflammation or fever, I would use ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen, becuase it doesnt take "much" to start ruining your kidneys with that, but, it takes a lot to start to bring up the enzymes on your liver on the tylenol.
You can get away with 1500mg of tylenol and it wont do any damage, but, if you do "that much" of ibuprofen, then your going to risk damage to your body.
I wish you well...

I think their both the same. I've used both and I haven't noticed much of a difference in strength between the two, that's just me though.
