The way everybody cares for their own children vary, independency is something they will have to gain as they grow.
The real answer for your question lies within yourself, you have to ask yourself if you have taught your child to be self protective, and if you believe that your child has the fisical abilities and reflexes to be doing those kind of activites.
Nobody knows your children better than you and as the parent you must decide whether or not it's safe for your child to be jumping an a big trampoline.
As a suggestion, watch your child for a while, and if you think he or she is fit for jumping on a trampoline without supervision than they will probably be alright.
When I was young I used to jump on a big trampoline with my friends, every once and a while I would get a cramp in my neck for no jumping right, a couple of my friends fell off the trampoline, even one of them ripped through the trampoline. None of us were ever injured seriously, only a few bumps and bruises from time to time, that and we jumped into eachother from time to time.
Good luck with your parenting.
In the end accidents are always around corners. What are you going to do when the time comes that your child starts driving?

no. it's a personal decision that has to be based on the specific child. if you decide that he needs to be supervised, then by l means, grab a chair and watch him jump. and if you're not around, then be clear about the rules that you set.
it's not like you're not allowing him to jump, so what are these people trying to accuse you of? is there something wrong with loving your child and not wanting them to get hurt?
by the way, for those of you who think i may be biased, i have a 6 year old daughter and a trampoline. and i have let her jump while i am doing work around the house. she knows the rules that she has to follow and understands why she has to follow them, so i am comfortable allowing her to jump if i am around, even if i am not right there. however, my five year old son and my nephews who are 7 and 10 are not allowed to jump without an adult present. they are simply more rambunctious and daring than she is, and i don't feel i can trust them to obey the rules and not get hurt.

No, because trampoline are very risky things. One wrong jump and you have broken something. You have every right to keep your son from jumping unless there is someone watching. That was the rule my parents rule with my little sister. I mean if he jumps and there is no one around and he gets hurt then what. As long as someone can keep something of an eye on him , then let him jump otherwise dont.

No, you are not. You're child could never be replaced and you know this. I don't think you should have to stand and watch you're child the entire time he's jumping but he should be supervised at least in intervals of a few minutes anyhow. But a six year old should be supervised like that no matter what he/she is doing.

NO! You have every right to be afraid. Kids fall off everyday. I used to work for a Brain injury clinic and if that trampoline has no net around it, he could do some serious damage. They make nets that prevent falling or serious injury and they go around and are taller than the trampoline. Trust your instincts!

No, not at all! With a trampoline there shhould always be adult supervision especially the ones that have no safety net around them...When it comes to my kids I dont believe there is such a thing as being too over protective....

I don't let any of my kids jump on outdoor trampolines. The only time they are allowed in in gymnastics under their supervision and instruction.
Trampolines are high up there in the top ten of childrens broken bones.

No, ANYONE jumping on a trampoline needs to be supervised/spotted, one can injure their backs severly if they should fall off a trampoline.

Absolutly not! Your its mother and you have the right watch your child. I know that you love your child and only want the best for him/ her. You want them to have fun and be safe at the same time. Find something both of you can do together , if you have the time; so that you may watch him/ her and know that they're having fun!

Not at all! I think, at the age of 6, someone should still be watching your child at all times if he/she is outside in an unfenced backyard. Besides that, say he jumps and falls, hits his head/breaks something...how long would it be before someone knows??
