When we speak of "America", traditionally the idea was the United States of America. Latin America was used to refer to the regions (excluding Canada despite Quebec) that spoke Latin based languages rather than English. "America" is the United States and the culture first laid down by English colonists. Later other groups came to this America and even as it grew in size and in populations that were obviously not all English speaking Englishmen, it remained America because is retained its English speaking mentality. This melting pot was the norm until the rise of liberal-socialism in the early 1960's and now, well go to any major city and soak in the Babel of languages except for English. So Mexican-Hispanic culture may have its roots in a Latin American Western society and it has its place in the Southwest where Mexicans and other Hispanics used to go to and speak English once upon a time, but in no way does Mexican-Hispanic culture have any real place in the definition of the United States of America except for the role Hispanics have played as immigrants like any other group.

The American definition of 'American' is people born or nationalized in America, or, as an adjective, anything relating to the United States of America.
If you want to get into the continents, you need to apend 'North' or 'South' (or 'Central' for the region around the isthmus).

What are you talking about?
They are from Central America, so if they are referred to as central American, I guess it is okay, but they are in NO WAY "American"
