I posted this question on another catagory also because I really would like some serious input from multiple sources. Do you think there is going to be a military draft with all the stuff going on? Longer deployments, More world issues ie. Iran. And do you think drafting illegal immigrants first before we grant 6 million citizenship is a good idea? We would have a pretty big army!

The current world situation does not justify the draft being enacted. Members of Congress would not allow this to happen based on the current feeling of unjustified fighting and conflicts the USA is now involved in.
However, if we were to be attacked on our soil in a major way, nuke attack, foreign invasion, etc., this will most likely justify enacting a draft of US citizens.
As for immigrants, legal or otherwise, I don't think we should forcibly enlist anyone into our armed services, this only makes for a weak military that is not ready to fight for our freedoms. Now, on the other hand, if we were to enact legislation that would give priority citizenship to immigrants who do serve the minimum 3 years of military service, this may be a better solution. We can fast track their citizenship as long as they served with honor and discipline. If they are dishonorably discharged, then back home they go.

Unless things get much worse, there will not be a draft. It's political suicide.

I don't think you could legally justify forcing somebody into the military who's not a US citizen, although I must admit to kind of liking your idea. It could make a strong deterent to illegal immigrants.

I sure hope not, but with bush's gunhoe about Iran I think he will do a draft.. Drafting illegal immigrants? Yes, we would have a big army.. Hipeatheticaly say he lets 10 millon or more join, and we go to Iran, and some how the war ends within a few weeks/months Would our country end up being a Mexican country? Beings we trained these Mexicans to learn basic engish langage teach them to fight for what they want. Teach them to shoot at people they do not know, and do not carefore. Only to getinto the "Free" country I think we would end up with a mexican / american civil war in the long run!

Um, they are shy on bodies and recruitment rates are at an alltime low. If we keep going to war with everyone, I really don't think it's that far off. Iraq, Afghanistan, threatening Iran, and now Palestine? What country is next?

After Vietnam, the USA's government will never have a military draft again, becauseif it did, people might form a proper opposition to whatever's going on.

No, there probably won't be a draft, but you can see the cowards getting ready to run at the mere mention of one. I wish they would just leave. They do not contribute anything of importance, all they do is bellyache.
