These people do nothing but get pregnant, have a kid, get pregnant again have another kid and have the nerve to be excited about it when they can't afford to have the kid or kids. Are these people bored or something? I notice the only thing these people do anymore is have kids and do drugs when they're not (and sometimes when they are) pregnant. Has no one heard of birth control? Are they just bored? Now, I am not saying that all people do this, I have just seen an overwhelming majority in my small town and others throughout the midwest. I am not passing judgement on anyone, I just don't understand it.

Silly, don't you know that's how they keep getting welfare and food stamps, once their kids reach a certain age, funding stops, so they have another one to get more money from the state and tax payers and it's everywhere, worldwide. I know a lady down the street that has 7 kids, no job and husband is recently unemployed they have hud housing, state pays their rent, food stamps all that. She just got pregnant again and said that they had been trying!!! Man, you will love the movie "Idiocracy" go rent it! Trust me!

Re read you question please! Not passing judgement! Don't make me laugh! I have never been to the midwest, but there are probably many families in similar circumstances throughout the world.

The reasons? Vast and complicated. Poverty No1, as always. Mental health, child/spousal abuse. Some abusive men force their partners into a permanent state of pregnancy as a means of control. Lack of access to education is a key factor in poor groups of people. Whether that is an Africa or in America, it seems no different.

I take it you have never had an addiction? The only thing I ever became addicted to was cigarettes and eventually managed to give up.. I have worked with many people with addictions and have learned a lot from them. You would do well to do the same and educate yourself. People develop drug addictions due to many reasons, not least poverty and abuse as a means of escaping their daily nightmare. Becoming pregnant doesn't suddenly transform you into a magical being that can resist all temptation! It has the opposite effect in some circumstances. it is extremely difficult to cope in the best of situations. Some women, with support, can stop using or at least cut down. Many can't. I don't judge them, as I have no idea what they must have gone through to get there or what it must take to give up. Super human strength i think.

You really don't have a clue.

Most cities are not family friendly. So when people decide to start having kids, they decide to move to a subdivision or a small town. So most small towns are full of people who have children. I think it's a wonderful thing. I live in a small town, (AZ) and wouldn't change it. You do have to teach children about birth control and making good decisions. Just because people choose to have children doesn't mean they are stupid or trailer trash. I'm pregnant with my first and we plan on having at least three, possibly more. We decided we would have as many as we could support finacially and emotionaly. It stems from me being extremly family orientated. BTW of the possible 4 we plan on adopting at least one. I do know what birth control is, and have been on it. I am not bored. I have more on my plate now than i have had in a while, but I don't see why living in a small town makes one think of barefoot and pregnant. Mabey if you got to know the people that you are judging you could figure out their reasons for wanting so many in their family. I hope you do. They could answer your questions better than we can, considering they are who you are talking about.

I live in small town America, too. (Virginia) I, fortunately, don't have kids and only have one brother. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is number 7 of 8 children. My mom is number three of 10.

Around here it stems back to the 18th and 19th centuries where they had numerous children to help out on the farms, and also many children died of simple ailments that are curable today. The farms are gone and medicine has advanced but the multiple children tradition just stuck.

Not all people who have large families are on drugs or welfare. They just love children and families. Family is a big love when you don't have much else to do.

Also, we're just as bored as the Midwest.

I live in the Midwest, and most families where I live only have three kids, maybe four at the most. We don't have any drug problems over here either, you've just got what's called a stereotype stuck in your head. Just because it happens in your town doesn't mean it happens all over the enitre Midwest.

I agree that when people cannot afford so many, they probably should not have so many, but I am having the 4th and can afford all of them and private school them also! I live in the south and most have 2 to 3, but I want 4! I think people should be able to afford the no. they have! I can, so I have a big family by choice and income! But I do not judge others, I just do not like a big family on welfare!

YOU are very very stereotypical. I am from the midwest, from a small town...and no one here has an overload of children. that is just a ridiculous thought.

It's the same everywhere. I've lived in ND, ID, CA and TX and it's always the same.

I think it's because people who haven't done anything with their lives want attention. Being pregnant gets a person lots of attention just walking around town, not to mention the baby showers, birthday parties, etc. Having babies is what they do to make life interesting.

I think it'd because we are just more family oriented in small midwest towns.
