for those that dont want to go read the article just to find them, here they are:
The Vatican's Ten Commandments for drivers
1. You shall not kill.
2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.
5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.
7. Support the families of accident victims.
8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
10. Feel responsible toward others.

There's your sign.
That's why people say Catholics aren't Christians. They believe they are above Christ himself, apparently.

Do you think it is ok to kill, or drive drunk? Or that we shouldn't support the families of accident victims, etc.?
Think about it. You may not be a Catholic. But regardless of who made up these ten simple driving rules...whether it was the pope, or your next door neighbor...they are very good and wise words to live by.
We should indeed think of the safety of both ourselves and others every time we're out on the road. And just because someone in authority over a particular religion called that to your attention doesn't make it any less true.
Therefore, you shouldn't have a problem with this, unless you think it is ok to possibly kill other people, not be responsible for your own actions, or to be uncharitable toward others.
Also, after reading some of the other comments, I just have to add that the word "commandment" does not mean "handed down from God." The ten rules to live by which were given to Moses from God are referred to as the ten commandments. But the word itself doesn't have to be associated with God or religion at all. The pope in no way is undermining the ten commandments which came down from God.

I think it is kindly advice and I really don't think he was saying this as anything more than kindly advice. We could use more of it. How come some other religious leader hasn't said anything yet? Drive by shootings and road rage and you SHOULD start hearing stuff from the pulpit. I got a feeling the media put the 10 commandment thing on it or it was done for a joke. The Pope knows the 10 Commandments aren't anything to joke about.

No, why should I? "Ten Commandments" lists are very, very common. Why are you trying to stir up animosity?

I think its great!! But a couple more need to be added.
Thou shall use your turn signal when changing lanes or turning, the drivers behind you can not read your mind
Thou shall not get behind the wheel with an alcoholic beverage or after drinking an alcoholic beverage or when doing drugs or pot.

I don't think it's necessarily meant as a religious edict, per se. Besides--have you ever driven in Italy?? They could probably do with a set of rules like this. I say that from experience.

When I saw the headline on the news this morning about the Pope saying that it was possible to sin in your car, I was thinking something totally different! (Lets just say I was thinking about when I was in High School)

Dude you totally stole my question. I would think the pope being the only human on earth who is infallible would have something better to do with his time. But who knows maybe he wrote it while on the pope-toilet.

"Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." Matthew 18:18
First of, The Papacy (vatican) has Christ-given authority to instruct on faith and morals.
To answer your question, I think that is a good idea, in order to have safer roads! God bless.

Boy, am I happy I did! What an uplifting adventure that accompanied! i became stopped at a purple easy at a hectic intersection, merely misplaced in concept on the subject of the Lord, and how stable he's... and that i did not observe that the easy had replaced. this is a sturdy element somebody else loves Jesus because of the fact if he hadn't honked, i wouldn't in any respect have observed! i found that distinctive human beings love Jesus! Why, whilst i became sitting there, the guy in the back of me began honking like loopy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, ''For the affection of GOD! pass, pass!! Jesus Christ, pass!!'' What an exuberant cheerleader he became for Jesus! all and sundry began honking! I merely leaned out of my window and started waving and smiling at maximum of those loving human beings. I even honked my horn some circumstances to share interior the affection! There could have been a guy from Florida back there because of the fact I heard him yelling something some ''sunny coastline''...I observed yet another guy waving in a humorous way with in easy terms his center finger caught up interior the air. as quickly as I asked my chum what that meant, he suggested that it became probable a Hawaiian stable success sign or something. nicely, i haven't met all and sundry from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the stable success sign back. My chum burst out guffawing...why even HE became taking section in this non secular adventure! a pair of the persons have been so caught up interior the excitement of the 2d that they have got been given out of their autos and started walking in the direction of me. I wager they had to prefer or ask what church I attended, yet it is whilst i spotted the easy had replaced, so I waved one extra time to my loving brothers and sisters, grinning, and drove on in the time of the intersection. i spotted i became the only motor vehicle that have been given in the time of the intersection till now the easy replaced back and that i felt style of unhappy that I had to pass away all of them regardless of each and every thing the affection we had shared, so I slowed the motor vehicle down, leaned out of the window and gave all of them the Hawaiian stable success sign one extra time as I drove away. compliment the Lord for such outstanding persons.
