...........................
Who told you that? What makes you even think that?
You are NOT part of the military while in the DEP. Therefore, you can NOT be discharged, honorably, dishonorably, generally, etc. Doesn't matter. You CAN NOT.
Now, with the Guard, there is no delayed entry program. The first time you swear in at meps is the only time you swear in, and from that day on you are in the guard.
But for AF, Navy, USMC, Army, Coast Guard, NO, you will not be discharged, AT ALL. You will merely be seperated from DEP. No "discharge", no "dishonorable" "honorable" nonsense. You're NOT part of the military yet.

NO SUCH thing. You can be the biggest dirt bag out there while you are in DEP and all they will do is discharge you or release you from the program. IF you do drugs or something they will kick you out and flag your Social Security number/record so you won't be able to go to another MEPS somewhere else and just get back in. If they find something in your past from your background investigation that you did not disclose they can discharge you from DEP and depending on what it is you can be banned forever from the military, but again no honorable or dishonorable discharge you are just out. You are not IN the military you are only in DEP. DEP is there to assist the military in doing and entry level investigation on you prior to shipping to boot camp. If they find something bad that's when you get get booted from DEP. IF your recruiter is trying to tell you that you CANNOT get out of DEP at all and if you do they will give you a dishonorable discharge they are full of crap. Again you are not in the military and can get out of DEP at any time prior to swearing in the day you ship to bootcamp. Not sure what your story is since you didn't ask a complete question, but something is screwed up on your question. Hope this helps.

I just looked at some documentation on about.com. looks like a contract is required placing you in the Reserve w/ID card. There is a very lengthy Separation process. It is 31 pages long. I did not see the term Discharge used. However it looks like not reporting for Active Duty could lead to trouble.

It can't. The only way you can get banned from entering the military is if you openly claim to be gay or claim to be a consientious objector. The DEP doesn't give you a military record, so anyone who tells you that you will have a dishonorable discharge is lying to you.

It isn't considered any type of discharge since you are not technically serving in active duty. Discharge only occurs after you begin boot camp.

It's not failure to adapt, but yes you will have a military record. Once in dep, you are in the inactive reserves. If you seperate from DEP that is exactly what you do, you seperate. It is an administrative seperation.

it won't be dishonorable. It would be failure to adapt...no worries. it follow you if you get out before basic. even within your first year you can still get out on failure to adapt and it would be a general discharge.
