I hate smoking, and I can't wait until the ban starts in England. But I still don't think we are doing enough. Putting the prices up isn't effecting anyone, they are addicted, they don't care about the price! Whats your thoughts?

I smoked for years. I started when it was the rage, and those good old companies, that we are still giving subsidies to, PROMISED THAT IT WAS NOT A HEALTH HAZARD!

The government sued and got BILLIONS. Did it go to help quit smoking, no, it went in the general fund and was given to the rich!

Government wants it both ways! If the truth be known, you pay almost all of your wages to someone else, and most in taxes. Know how much there is on a carton of cigarettes, or a bottle of booze? How about gas, or plastics madew from oil? Hell, you get taxed many times before anything ever even hits the market, and then you get taxed again! You think government wants to lose that revenue!

Many Americans are quiting, just like me, because it is a dirty, nasty addiction. I don't think the government telling people they can't smoke is constitutional!

If they want to kill themselves, let them. Your average time on Earth from diagnoses to death for lung cancer is generally about a year, no matter how soon they found it! So, the argument that it is so expensive is hogwash. A person dying from cancer of the lungs due to smoking is a lot less expensive than almost all other types other than Reticulum Cell Sarcoma and brain cancer, if that is where it originated!

I hope everyone does quit! The government will just find a new way to tax you!

And yes they are addicted! It is a terrible addiction which the government spends squat on smoking cessation as they rip each pack you buy off!

Isn't it strange how much government gives to people that are screwing you, or killing you, but in the end they give you little if anything at all !

And YES everyone quits smoking, one way or another!

In America there has been a sharp decrease in the number of people who smoke in the areas where a smoking ban is in effect.

My partner quit when he was in the hospital with CANCER. Sometimes it takes that much to get someone to give it up. He had tried before but never succeeded until he was sick.

It seems to me that whenever the government is in trouble, they pull some kind of politically safe white elephant out of their itinerary and use it to mollify the masses. I smoke and am always very careful not to do it around people that don't. I never smoke indoors either. I often feel that my rights are being taken away by do-gooders and political idiots who cater to those "feel good" ideas that are passed into laws.

Another foolish attempt by government to control behavior. Cigarette taxes are extremely regressive, which runs counter to the left's "sympathetic" stances. A rich person who smokes will not be affected much by another buck a pack. A poor person will have to decide: another carton of cigarettes, or new shoes for the kids? What do you think will win?

No they won't
Call it what it would be Prohibition on smoking (worked well for booze didn't it?)
The anti-smoking Nazi are too cowardly to outright get rid of tobacco and are addicted to the tax money it brings in
The anti-smoking Nazi's would rather stop it here and there, keep the health problems and taxes.
No courage in their convictions, greedy, and spineless is all a anti-smoker Nazi is

I don't smoke I hate it ! BUT Its my body , I should be able to do with it as i please, and so should smokers. where do we draw the line in how the gov. tells us how to live. I understand u are not American but even u have to see the problem with telling someone what to do with their body's. I am against abortion on a personal Laval as well but dint think the gov. has a right to tell people what to do. same with drugs. If an idiot wants to shoot heroin , its his or her choice. I don't want to be a commodity used by the gov. I am an individual who wants freedom, that includes freedom to be an Idiot!
