I want to either do a throwback theme to the late 1930s early 40s, or England because he never went there but was always curious. He is a simple CT farm boy, and in excellent condition. I love him to pieces and I want this to be super special... so I'd like some thoughts on my theme and especially foods from the 30s and 40s ;-) thanks

The best thing to do is get your Grandpa to reminisce about what is was like during the depression and during the war. I can remember my mom and dad talking about having potato or onion sandwiches in the 30's. My mom lived on a farm in Kansas and they would have a chicken once in a while. Everything else, the hogs and calves, they sold to buy the staples. During the war a lot of things were rationed so it was not a lot better.
I would say call your Granddad and ask him what was the favorite food his mom every cooked. Then try to figure out how to do it.
