The Savage modle 93R17 is a well balanced and very accurate gun. And is fun to shoot. Get it with the Accu Trigger and you can adjust the trigger pull down to 1.5 pounds by yourself. That is a very light trigger pull, by the way. There are several differnt varieties of this gun. You can get one with a heavy barrel or light barrel, wood stock or synthetic, stainless barrel and action or blued. And my favorite (don't have it yet but will soon) is the classic model. It has a highly polished blued barrel and action, nice stained hardwood stock with a black fore end tip. Beautiful!!
I think you will enjoy it no matter which model you buy.

I have one and I have a blast with it. I use it to get rabbits, birds, skunks and other varmints. I know a guy who shot a coyote at 200 yards. I use hornady ammo and that's what I always used. I have shot many rounds though it and never had trouble. Put a good scope on it and nothing will be safe! I would take that .17 HMR over a .22 any day. I am not a big fan of Savage but they sure out did themselves with that gun. Get one and enjoy!

Personally i don't think it's worth it. A .17 HMR's a rimfire rifle right? Those bullets are only marginally useful for vermains and very small animals. Plus the ammo's much more expensive then .22LR so plinking won't be as enjoyable............
My suggestion? Get an ruger 10/22 instead

I've had a Savage .17HMR for about three years. It's a great plinkin rifle but the rounds are expensive.
It is the most accurate round of any small caliber gun I've ever shot. At 100 yds, I can touch three holes of three shots !!!!!
I've taken several coyotes with it and you should see what it does to crows !! ** POOF ** Nothing but feathers.
Get one.. You'll love it !!!!!

The 22-250 or 220 Swift would be a better Rifle or investment of time and $$ and performance*...
