First you Pray! For the person at the door and the spouse. Try to help the person at the door get beyond the need for your help. Find him a Christian shelter or recommend a Job or what ever the Lord directs.

your question is biased, you should interpret what God says. It doesn´t mean that we have to take a cross and carry it everywhere, that would be crazy.
So, in this hypothetical situation you should use your common sense and consider this:if your spouse gets angry(which is bad for a stable relatinship with your partner), and that guy just wants to scrounge money off you -which will make him lazy- you don´t have to give him a ride or money.

Paul seems to address this question. The idea of giving someone more than they expect does not mean that you have to let lazy people consistently take advantage of your good nature. That would be teaching them bad habits. So you would have to draw a line somewhere if it were obvious that someone was just taking advantage of you.
---------------------------------
6In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us. 7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."
11We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. 13And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.
14If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. 15Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Hello phil p.. :)
When a man and a woman get married..they are no longer two, but become as one..
If there be any disagreement or uncertainty, then we go to God before His Holy Throne, as we pray together, we are seeking the Lord's will for our lives and and ask that He guide us and speak to us for discernment as to what to do..so there will be peace and understanding..without any doubt.. :)
I have been serving the Lord since 1978..He has never failed me.. :)
In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

There are times when you can over-literalize a verse and these are one of those times. When you isolate passages and take them out of context you can get all kind of wacky rules, my friend. Use common sense that the Lord gave you through the Holy Ghost to discern scripture. God is not asking you to be a victim to the outside world but rather not to be a victim to vengeful or selfish motives springing from hate.
