i know someone that got bit by chiggers and they claim that they are "contagious". they're not, right? they're just saying that as an excuse to get out of something...

Nope, not contagious...it appear that the person is just not wanting to be around others

yes and no. he may not be blowing u off cuz after chiggers bites, there is often larvae that may be stuck to the skin in undetectable places and may go on to u and cause u to be bitten by chiggers. techinally, its not really contagious.

chigger bites are just like mosquito bites. not contagious and only itchy to the person who has them.

I never heard that.. used to get them as a kid when playing out under our pine trees.
