I'm not certain how old you are - being terminally is horrific. I have a friend in that state too - you state 'since birth' which is presumably some time ago? So I wonder what is your prognosis? However, your question is not uncommon and probably more common than we know. If you have a painful condition some might say to die is a blessed relief. Others may be afraid that death will be painful and that fear is understandable. I guess for most of us, even those, like me who have a strong faith, it is not the actual dying that is a problem but the fear of the unknown. What really happens after death - is that the end of me or is this there something else? If there is will it be good or bad? We can not get answers to this while we are here on earth and that is the problem, no one has ever come back to tell us (ignoring claims of saences and spiritualism etc). If you are in hospital or hospice care or at home under the care of a GP, there is no reason why your final days should be painful - there is very good pain care and so what if its addictive? It's a peaceful and dignified end you want. Again, we have no guarentees how we die - hopefully it will be peaceful but there are always victims of crime and those deaths, like all others can not be predicted. There are many cases of a patient receiving a prognosis of a few weeks, or months, or a couple of years and going on for much, much longer. I know of a lady who at the age of 43 went on to live to a 102 after being given 18 months to live. So each case is different. As a Christian I suggest daily conversations with God (prayers) - you can find much peace that way. I hope, whatever you believe that your remaining time on this earth is joyous, peaceful and pain free.

Fear of the unknown - Even with a terminal illness you know about the world around you, and I am sure you can have control over some matters. However, nobody know what will happen after death. Will it be the heaven and hell of Christians? Will it be reincarnation of the Buddhists? Will nothing happen other than turning your body into fertilizer? Or maybe even the River Styx from Greek mythology? It is life's last and and greatest mystery.

The question is so short without any particulars,it's difficult to respond to,How much have you lived? How long do you have?Dieing is a place we all will go to,as much as we try to prolong the inevitable. Most of us are afraid, because we don't know whats next. The other side is a dimension we can't see,it's only for the privilege. My son who also was terminal is now in that dimension,,once in a while he sends me a message. For now all you can do is live, and if you get to that place, before I do,ask for Geoff,he'll be a very handsome guy with smiles in his eyes, and a heart as bright as the sun.Tell him I miss him very much, and as soon as I'm done living,we will be together again. God be with you in your new journey.

You poor thing. How old are you? I think its absolutly normal to be afraid of death. Especially if you are young. I hope that you have a loving family that is going through your hard time with you. But just know, its normal to be afraid of the unknown, and not much is known about death. Good luck to you.
