The ABS pump will be on the brake lines passengers side of the engine compartment behind the powersteering pump near the engine wall "Nissan does not like the term Fire Wall". After cycling the key off and start the car move away 14 feet and hear a one second buzz that is the ABS pump self test. ABS has a light that turns on when the Ingnition is turned to on "Bulb Test" All warning lights turn on. Slam on the brakes on slick surface and feel what the ABS pump does vibration in the brake pedal. STOMP on the brake, STAY on the brake STEER around what is in the way.

There should be a module somewhere around the brake master cylinder and it will be labeled ABS. if you do not see that module, then you do not have ABS. An easy way to find it is to follow the brake lines. This module regulates the pumping of your brakes, so it needs access to your brake lines. It is usually in the hood, close to the fender on the driver's side, somewhere in front of your master cylinder.

OR

you can go into an empty parking lot. The bigger the better. Then accelerate to about 25 MPH then STOMP on the brake. Picture a wall right in front of you. When you stomp on the brakes, it should feel weird, because the ABS module will pump your brakes faster than humanly possible and you'll feel the pumping in your brakes on your feet through the pedals. If you don't have ABS then you will just feel your brakes like normal.

But I suggest the first method. The second one's only fun in an empty parking lot when it's wet.

I don't know if the 1999s are the same as the 1997s, but my 1997 has an indicator light that briefly comes on when the car starts. One time when there was serious ice build up around my wheels during a sleet/snow storm, the abs iced up and the warning light came on to show the abs wasn't working. Knocked the ice off and the light went off. If you have never seen an indicator light on your dashboard, I would guess that you don't have abs.
