Do they make barrels for the Remington 870 HD (home defense) that fire the 2 3/4" shell. The only 870 shotguns I have found only fire the 3" shell and I would also like 2 3/4" shells to be fired for skeet shooting. Do they make 18" inch barrels for it that will fire the 2 3/4" shells?

Also, can you exchange the barrels from 12 gauge to 20 gauge if you buy a new barrel and a new tubular magazine? I would like it also in 20 gauge with out buying a new one.

If it shoots 3" it will also shoot 2 3/4". You can not go the other way though. An 18" barrel is going to suck for skeet shooting unless you are throwing them on the ground about 10 feet in front of you. Buy a 26" Full choke barrel to shoot skeet with. You might want to search on the net for some skeet recipes. They are hard to cook unless you soak in a good steak sauce for days.

Good luck and happy hunting.

If your barrel is chambered for 3" shells, you can also fire 2 3/4" shells in it.

However, for home defense you more or less want a short 18 inch barrel. For skeet, at least a 26" barrel, with either changeable (RemChokes) chokes, or a fixed Improved Cylinder or Skeet.

Don't listen to the guy saying "Full" choke for skeet...that would be the exercise in frustration if there ever was one. For skeet, a Cylinder, Skeet, Improved Cylinder, or Skeet 2 choke are the best.

Go with the 3" barrel, in any of them you can fire any of the shorter shells, and, it gives you greater flexibility. Go with a 20"; not an 18". Something else to consider is a one use barrel; Remington has a nice 26" model that has changable chokes (screw in); if you want to shoot skeet a 20" would be an exercise in frustration.
