We have laws on the books that prohibit employers from hiring undocumented worker. As an American I have to prove my status when I begin a new job. Where is the enforcement? Also, illegal immigrants can apply for, and get, a federal employer ID number.
Let's make it more difficult for illegal workers to take money out of the economy here in America.
What do you think?

Shorty1, the last I checked having a baby is not a disease, it is chosen. Why should pregnancy be covered as "emergency medical"? Why don't you and all the pro-illegals pick up the tab next time an illegal alien gives birth in a hospital? I have no empathy for someone who chooses to get pregnant and then doesn't want to pay their hospital bill. A pregnancy is not a disease, it is chosen so why should the American people keep paying for it? Now, if you want to get technical they aren't receiving welfare but their anchor babies are! I planned out my life and didn't have a baby until I could afford one, so why should my tax dollars and the tax dollars of other responsible people go to pay for the babies of all these irresponsible people? Do you think that all the undocumented men who stand outside of every Home Depot are paying taxes? I bet they aren't, but their children are going to our schools, getting fed by our government, our babies are born for free and fed with our tax dollars AKA, WIC.

First off it is the law enforcement that has the problem. They sit by and do nothing about people running out to contractors to try and get a day job for cash. 2nd where is the IRS that there not there checking which contractors are doing this and not paying the taxes. 3rd where is the FBI that they are not there checking out social security fraud that it is not being paid in for the work done. Where is the law enforcement when licensed contractors hire these people to come into your home to work with no knowledge of this person. I think we have enough laws, just need to start enforcement of them. If they can't get the jobs here they will have to go some where else. As far as those that came and had children here. Well guess what so do robbers and other law breakers that are citizens and we separate those families. So why would these law breakers be treated any differently?

That's exactly what I've been screaming about! We don't need a new law, especially one as horrible as the Senate's pile of crap!

Besides the fence, we must close the border. The easiest way I see to "deport" the 20+ million illegal alien criminals (that are breaking the law) is to nail the employers. All employers of illegals should be heavily fined and/or jailed. This will dry up the jobs and the illegals will self-deport.

We MUST interpret the 14th amendment like it was intended. This amendment was about the slaves from Civil War times. The writers of this amendment never intended this to give citizenship to the children of illegal aliens.

EDIT: Hey, Shorty, I've heard your fairy tale before and it's a TOTAL LIE! How can an illegal alien criminal pay taxes when they have no SS# and are mostly paid under the table? They only time they use a SS# is if it's someone elses! The only taxes they pay are sales tax and property tax through their rent. So stop telling lies and admit that they are no where close to covering the cost of benefits they get!

I hate it when people proclaim things that are so stupid and say that their statements are "fact." The Heritage Foundation estimates that it cost over $22,400 each year for each family. That's money STOLEN FROM TAXPAYERS! Geeze! Sorry, but Shorty, and others like her, really piss me off!

First of all, I'm not American but I went to college in USA. I'd like to tell you how it is from another side.

After I graduated from a top college in Florida with honors, I still had to wait 8 months for a working permit. There IS already a law stating one must show the status before working.

The immigration officers treated everyone like criminals. I was the most productive architect at my company but I don't want to go through permit renewal. I left before the it expired. Canadian immigration is very kind, the officer told me that I would be an asset to the country upon my landing.

It is already difficult for even the legal workers to make a living. I don't know how is it possible to make it more difficult. The sneaky people will always find a way.

The difficulty in enforcing the law is that they are very cheap and they take cash. (Maybe when we stop using cash.) There aren't many slather house in USA that hires all legal workers. Can't imagine how expensive the groceries would be.

Economy is not a zero-sum game. The more people there are, the more jobs there will be. Countries with few children and immigrants have economic problems due to population aging. Any economist can tell you that immigrants are assets because it's the population raised by other countries' resources and are ready to boost your GDP.

Stop blaming the immigrants for the economy. Japan is on downward spiral economy because they don't have enough immigrants.

Control immigration is no doubt important for filtering dangerous people and ensure steady population growth. The US government has already gone enough, or even too much. It's up to the American employers to stop hiring the illegals.

Your idea is great. It's already in used, but there are difficulty in practice.

I am with you, I also think that making each and every illegal when they are apprehended sign a document that states that they will never be granted amnesty. Sorry I lost my head, our congress and W have no intentions to enforce any law, old or new. So maybe a new congress that does whats best for the tax payers and not the illegals is the answer

Yes you are correct. There is such a law back in the 80's during the amnesty days that mandates every employer to check for legal status of every applicant. Employers should ask for U.S. birthcertificate, green card or work permit. It is still the law but I don't think every company enforces it.

Okay, the Congress wants something easy to enforce. Okay, the employers want cheap labor. Okay, the immigrants want jobs. Okay, you and I want to be safe from the criminal element that comes with the ones that just want to work.

How about we simply let law enforcement take care of it? If an illegal immigrant is convicted or pleads guilty to any crime whatsoever, all their property in the US is confiscated and they are subject to immediate deportation, barring only a request to keep them incarcerated here by the prosecutor or judge.

For legal immigrants, just revocation of their legal status and immediate deportation absent a request by the prosecutor or judge.

Time to stop fooling around.

I think it's a great idea, but it won't happen any more than enforcement would happen if the new immigration "reform" bill passes. The government has no intention of enforcing immigration laws. They want cheap labor and new Democratic voters.
