It's more about pricing and convenience. It's so easy to create, so cheap to produce, and fills needs in places where people are used to paying for it. Companies don't like to switch to more expensive solutions and unfortunately, the cheapest options aren't always the "best" all-around. That's not exclusively the case and there are better options that are being used (for cups, packing, and other things that styrofoam has become the standard for), just still not nearly as frequently as styrofoam. I guess it would just be tough to suddenly have a mandate that outlawed new styrofoam production, even considering its "nature".

its a cheap and easy way to protect products that ppl buy and since it dont harm the planet then why not. since global warming/coolin is just a ploy to get ppl to buy higher priced "green" items. and even if its not burned. everything on this planet degrades over time. especially stuff made by man. simple scientific fact everything that comes from the ground will sooner or later go back to it. styrofoam isnt a natural thing and will over time rot away. its one of the constants of the planet. the earth changes on a daily baises

It still is? I haven't seen that stuff in a long time...I keep getting things packed in giant bubble wrap (makes for a great time popping it too). And restraunt cups seem to be made of some sort of odd material that looks like paper mache...keeps the coffee warm though.

Because there is a market for it. Would you rather cut down trees and use paper cups? or just poor the drink in you hand and hold it. Not everyone buy the non-sence that some of you have bought hook, line, and sinker.

Thats a really good question. Maybe because suppliers havent figured out a way to transfer fragile and sensitive materials and goods without breaking! Plus I also think its relatively cheap.
Bottom line folks is...... the bottom line
