It usually takes 48hrs for antibiotics to kick in. You should start to feel better tomorrow. Good luck.

I am sorry this happened to you. It shouldn't have. When the doctor couldn't find the cause of your sore throat, I think hshe should have done more tests, or taken other cultures or something. In your case you definately needed the antibiotics. However, I do agree with the general statement that antibiotics are "overprescribed." The problem is when people who have a cold or viral infection demand antibiotics. Antibiotics will not do ANYTHING for a viral infection such as the cold or flu. They only kill bacteria. But people want to feel better, and some doctors give them antibiotics, thinking it won't hurt. Other times, some things like mild sinus infections & ear infections might clear up on their own, and may not require antibiotics, even though they are technically bacterial infections. In older children & adults, who are otherwise healthy, antibiotics are probably not warrented in these cases. If antibiotics are used all the time for these types of situations, the bacteria become resistant to the antibiotics, and then, people can get serious life-theatening infections that the antibiotics won't touch. That is why we have these health scares like MRSA, and the multi-drug resistant TB that you hear about on the news. So, yes, your doctor had a point, but no, that didn't excuse her for not listening to you. Next time, I listen to your gut instinct! If you don't feel right, get a second opinion! I am just glad that you survived it!

The worsen condition doesn't have anything to do with the antibiotics. Amoxicillin takes time to work--one pill will not make any difference.
Use advil for the pain and continue to take your antibiotics. Another day or so and you should be feeling better.

Antibiotics can take anything from 48-72hours to get into your system and kick in against the infection.
I know you,ve probably heard this many times before, but keep taking the A/B until you finish the prescribed course, and take some pain killers, such as Nurofen, this contains an anti inflammatory and will help with the pain and reduce any swelling which may occur!

It does take about 48hrs for them to work and sometimes with amoxicllin they might not work depending on the strength the 250mg don't work for me the 500mg sometimes help only if I have problems now I'm given metronidazole(may be spelt wrong) and they work, you can also take some paracetamol to help with the pain till the antibiotics work, good luck

sorry, but it takes time for them meds to work, they have to build up in your system till they are strong enough to kill the infection. Also, he should have given you some pain management meds. Don't take aspirin, it is a blood thinner and can cause bleeding problems during the dental work. Call his office for some pain meds;

I took amoxicillin when I had strep throat- it helped and I was better in two days versus my mom, she cant take certain meds because it makes her sick. So it depends on your body.
