Office 2003 is a full version program that is not available for download, except for a trial version, which you can find at www.microsoft.com/office. The trial version quickly expires, and you will not be able to use for the school year because of this. If you want it, you must purchase it, but you can get the Student and Teacher edition at a discounted rate of $149.00, if you have proof that you are a student.
Microsoft Office is certainly a very good and full featured program, which is why your school suggests it, but if you do not want to pay, there is a free alternative. Openoffice.org (downloadable at www.openoffice.org) is a free office program that tries to mimic Microsoft Office, but for absolutely free. It can save in the Micrsoft Office formats (just make sure that at the save dialog, you choose the Microsoft Office Formats), so it will be compatible with your school's computers, if you need to open files on there.
I hope that this info helped. Good luck with the coming school year!

MS Office 2003 products are not available for download, you might found one but it's not safe. You might get yourself infected by a virus or other rogue programs.
You better check your school IT Administrator or any tech guys. Or purchase it from the store near you, its not so expensive.

Contact your school and they can direct you to an applicable site if they have a partnership with Microsoft to provide you the software. Many schools and school districts will have such partnerships.
Often they have CD's/DVD's which you can check out or take for free.
