it's saving a place at the top of the board coz he thinks you win a washing machine or something if you answer first.

I believe he does that so he can get a top spot on the answers list, then he just goes back and edits his post. Some people don't care enough to read all the answers that are posted to their questions and will just select best answer as quickly as possible. Hope that helped you guys, and have fun!

By posting 1 letter he reserves his "spot" on the top of the answer list, and then he can go back and type out his full answer while not losing his spot.

He does it so he can quickly nab the top spot in the answers because he's sure his answer is better than anyone else's and doesn't want you to miss it.

By typing one letter he quickly reserves the top spot, then he finishes typing while everyone else fills in the next thirty answers.

Oh yeah, just like I did by the way. :-)

The problem is you tend to get a bunch of thumbs down from the early voters.

He may not be an egomaniac as I described above but rather just a slow typist.

That's so his answer will be one of the first for that question. Then, he goes to edit his answer, and finishes it.
He thinks it is because his answer is better than the rest; the reason he thinks that is because he has such a high opinion of himself. He gets thumbs down from others because of that very same high opinion of himself.

People tend to only read the first ten or so questions, so if you want your answer read you have to hold your place, then go back and edit. Good question.

He's placing a marker and going back and 'editing' his post so he can hold one of the first positions.

He is holding his place in line.........Some people use this technique to insure that they are heard.....I personally don't...but I do type very fast.

EDIT......Sometimes I type so fast,I get ahead of my thoughts.
