"we're all americans... let's start acting like brothers"
i really wish that were true. i am a black chick and i'm really cool about people being of different races; i prefer to have a mixture of friends. however, i guess a lot of people become so comfortable around me that they 'forget' that i am black and then you start hearing the racist comments come out. i.e. 'wow, it's amazing that you're black and you actually get good grades', 'i really like you because you're not a typical black person', 'the blacks don't deserve the land in south africa because they can't farm. leave it with the whites', 'i should have warned my family that a black person was coming over to my house. my mom saw you and got scared that a big black woman was standing on her doorstep (i'm not even fat! i'm just really tall)' etc. AND THESE ARE MY FRIENDS!!!
so, if people who actually like me can be so ridiculously insensitive, what about complete strangers who have no experiences with black people and constantly see thugs on TV, and think that's what i am about? i go out with my mixed race friend and she comments all the time how much different her experiences are when she goes out with her white friends than when she goes out with me. even though her other friends are not as friendly as i am, she gets better service, more attention and treated with more courtesy than she does when she is with her black friends.
there have been a number of experiments where black people made up to be white and vice versa and their experiences as a result. we are not treated the same in most cases. society at large does not believe that we are brothers. i wish this were the case, but it isn't.
my last comment. did you write off all black people as haters of whitey? if you did (IF), i hope you realize that you are stereotyping blacks, which in turn pisses us off (again), and the cycle continues. i try to take each white person at face value, and when they prove to be a piece of white trash, then i walk away. if not, then cool. we can be friends. there are many blacks out there like that.
p.s. in this day and age, i still get people yelling 'n*gger' from their cars, my brother gets rocks thrown at him, and i see the look of shock on people's faces if they first meet me over the phone and then meet me in person (but she sounds so... white!!!!) i have to keep making an active decision to dismiss these people and look for those who are good. there are many blacks who are just too tired to keep doing that. i am not saying that this is okay; i am just saying that it is hard for you to get it when you have never walked in our shoes. it is the lower road, but it is certainly easier, and many of your people are not making this easier for us to 'just get over it'.
it's complicated, ugly, and unfortunate. i wish this wasn't the case.
cheers, my brother (actually, you're not my brother. I'm not american !) but i wish you well nonetheless.

Well slavery was introduced to the Americas by the Dutch as cheap labor. They first bought the slaves from Tribes who were willing to trade their own people or prisoners from other tribes in Africa. The Dutch being Business minded found it even more cheaper to steal the Africans. But as a reminder slavery been in the World when man dragged his knuckles on the ground. Lincoln did not free the slaves, but the industrial age did by having machines doing the labor instead of slaves(cheaper) Now there are more types of slavery then you can imagine (slaves to money, debts, drugs and etc etc...) These types of slavery was brought on by the big Corporations. Unfortunately the each generation teaches the negative of all this whether they are white or black. So the biggest slavery is ignorance.

Amen Babee doll!
Man chill. when you live in my skin, then you can tell me what's in the past. Also not all Black people are prejudiced against whites. In fact, many older Blacks are prejudiced against Blacks. Why? Because they were taught by society that white is right, Black get back. maybe you don't like to face it but the fact of the matter is that racism is alive and strong. The "n" word is still hurled at Black people and even if it isn't. How many whites have said themselves that even though they didn't dislike blacks they viewed them as inferior. Yes viewing someone as inferior is racism as is sterotyping. Just as soon as a Black person forgets who they are they will be swiftly reminded. However, if I meet a white person I'm do my best to give them a chance based on how they act not by the color. However, I think the only ones who don't experience some sort of racism are babies because they haven't been taught yet. Peace brotha

Ya i dont get it either,
Im completly supportive of these events but I mean black people get a month dedicated to them.
First Nations people get pow wows to celebrate their culture.
Imagine if i decided to start a white history month or have a white heritage celebration, id be face down in a creek w/ in a week. I wasnt a nazi, i wasnt a slave hunter??? Im no member of the kkk but god forbid i be proud of where i came from and my people. Its not as though all the wrongs ever performed in the world (although white people are guilty of many) by people of european descent. Asians, hispanics. blacks and whites all have things to be proud of so why cant we have equal opportunities to celebrate our heritages w/o offending anyone?

Why on earth would somebody need to sympathize with us? Clearly somebody said something to set you off, because I can count the times on one hand where I've felt discrimination from a black person.
I think you need to realize that we are the majority and we have the upper hand when it comes to basically everything in this country. (Take a race & ethnicity class if you in college/when you go to college) We make more money, have better educations, have a much better standard of living... the list goes on. To be frank, it's complete BS and they deserve to be pissed about it. They are still recovering from centuries of discrimination. Christopher Columbus killed and fed his slaves to his pet dogs. Blacks were arrested for winking at white people 50 years ago for chrissake! If somebody takes it out on you, you need to learn to take it with a grain of salt. Seriously. And be thankful for what you have.

I completaly 100% agree with you.
The blacks these days aren't experiencing slavery.
Let's leave the past in the past.
And I think blacks should stop acting like they are victims because their ancestors were slaves to us they weren't.

Don't blame every person of color for whoever pissed you off either. All blacks don't live in the past. For what? It will do what good? I care about how I am treated. In 2007.

Mmm.. what are you wearing?
Seriously, I don't disagree with you, but I also see white people who do the "whoa is me thing" because they're used to getting what they want - and when they don't, they expect a pity party. Of course not ALL white people are guilty of doing this, but I have seen my fair share.

Why did you let someone make you upset?
Why do you need sympathy from others?
I don't owe anything to anyone--whatever any of my ancestors may or may not have done does not apply to me.

Dylan,
Take a deep breath and stop allowing people here to get under your skin. There is not much sympathy for anyone here...race, religion, sex...anyone.
Some people forget they were raised with manners, let's not be like them. Whadda say?
Let it go, life is too short!
Peace be with you!!!
