I had my tonsils taken out a few years ago, and it made absolutely no difference to my voice or my singing. It will probably help, because you won't get as many infections that will affect your voice.

Well, your tonsils are actually storage houses for white blood cells. And if they get infected, they can recur infections. Strep throat is a pro-virus, which inserts its DNA into your cells, and lets the cells multiply, along with the pro-virus DNA, then an outbreak occurs, from stress or other things. I wouldn't know what to say, other than get as much information on the subject as is possibly with reach. And if you're really really worried and the facts state a change in voice, if you don't mind the strep then you can just not have them taken out, it's a risk but you can take it.

When it comes to surgery, Always Always Always get a second opinion. However!.... as most people below have said, I am also saying this surgery will not hurt your singing voice. Just follow the doctors orders on recovery, ya know? You will be ok. Also, check with the doc about how the anesthetic (however it's spelled) will be administered. Let him know you're a professional singer and you need what's best for your voice. Don't be afraid to speak up. Hope that helps.

I've been singing in public for 30 years and had my tonsils removed about 26 years ago and I can still sing quite well.
But if you're seriously concerned, which I'm sure you are, talk with your doctor about it or ask for a second opinion.
good luck to you!

Your voice could get messed up by getting tonsilitis or constantly having throat infections. So NOT having them out could mess you up, too. Discuss this with your doctor further and see what he says. If he thinks they should come out, then have them out. If not, then wait.

Im not sure. if im wrong about my advice pleese dont be mad at me!? Actually it depends. If your tonsils are just over grown it is going to be a lot better for your health and and much more.

Your tonsils won't affect your voice. If you have them removed it might even make you better as you'll have more room in your throat. It's all about breathing and pushing that air through properly.

Don't do it with out at least one more opinion.
Tonsillectomies are the number one biggest unnecessary operation among among the thousands of needless operations done annually, that doctors perpetrate upon trusting, unaware patients.
Reading again, since it appears your doctor "gave you a choice," lean toward the choice of not doing it.
