It is treated with medication. You can choose a synthetic or a natural medication. I have tried both and I found the natural to work best for me.
Below are some thyroid links. I found it helped to learn as much as I could about hypothyroidism.
Always test your thyroid levels first thing in the morning, as TSH is highest while we sleep and lowest around 2 PM. You want to test when its at the high point to get the proper amount of medication. If possible, also get a free t4 and free t3. They are much better indicators of hypothyroidism

The answer to this question depends on what blood test you had and what you mean by low. If the blood test you had was for TSH (or thyroid stimulation hormone) and it was "low" (less than 1) then you have hyperthyroidism (or overactive thyroid). It means that your thyroid is overproducing hormones and that your pituitary gland (that produces TSH) is not producing TSH as a result.
If your TSH result was high (over 4) then you have hyperthyroidism. That is an underactive thyroid.
In either case, the doctor may or may not prescribe medication - depending on how "low" your results were. The blood tests have ranges and you may have been on the "low" end but not in need of medication.
I suggest you call your doctor and ask if you need medication. Also ask him what blood test he/she gave you and what the "low" results mean. Always keep open lines of communication with your physicians.
Good luck!

Usually you don't fix it, but you treat it by taking thyroid hormones. This is for an under active thyroid.

Synthroid or a generic brand of synthetic thyroid hormone will be prescribed for you. You will probably start on a low dose and go for periodic blood work until you level off.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tinyurl.im/aH6sM Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour. Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland. Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

Depends on how low it is. Borderline low the doctor will probably monitor. If it is lower than borderline, you'll need meds - just a tiny little pill, but you'll probably be taking them the rest of your life. And you'll have to really watch your weight most likely since low thyroid habitually lowers metabolism. HIGH THYROID (Graves Disease) on the other hand makes your metabolism dangerously high and you lose weight.

The top 2 things that can cause thyroid problems are iodine deficiency and radiation exposure.
There isn't a lot we can do about radiation other than to avoid it, but there's certainly something that can be done about iodine deficiency. Not sure if reversing iodine deficiency is a permanent solution, but it's a good solution.

Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid is functioning below normal levels. If the test was borderline you will probably be monitored for a time if it was past borderline your doctor will prescribe medication for you to take. I take levoxyl. There is nothing that will substitute medication to replace the thryoid hormones.

A native americam remedy is a tasty fish head stew. After a few batches the condition seemed to clear up for a mans daughter whom I met. THis seemed much safer and more effective than the drugs that were being considered.
Good luck!!!
