because its the way. if you are a true believer you don't need to ask questions. and you shouldn't.
all answers in your holly book. read it. read and understand.
if you ask questions you become agnostic, not atheist though. but your people will consider you next to atheist.
By the way, I'm a true atheist. A skeptic atheist.
I can ask questions. Not YOU !

1. I have never seen any of your questions before this one
2. I am a fundamentalist.
3. Anything that I would just dismiss with "read the Bible" I don't answer because it is pointless.
4. If I can prove you wrong through the Bible I will.
5. Are you saying that you have a problem with following the Bible to the letter? That is what it sounds like- Have you ever found anyone that follows the Bible to the letter?
6. How do you find a problem with it if there is no one who does? Some try but as fallible mortal we can never succeed.
Have you ever tried? It's a hard thing to do but I'm sure it is not an inherrent flaw to do so.

Good question. I'm a Christian (a Southern Baptist, no less!), and I find the same thing happens to me sometimes. What is funny to me is that if I were an athiest, I wouldn't believe in the Bible, so what would be the point? Besides, people interpret the Bible different ways, so how does "read the Bible" solve anything? "Read the Bible" is just what a Christian says when they don't have any kind of real argument. That is the reason for it. There is nothing wrong with referencing it, but if that is all you've got, then it is not a very effective argument.

The Christians you come in contact with who assume you're an athiest are very wrong. The only way to know that the bible is truth is to ask questions. The disciples asked Jesus many in depth questions that he gladly answered. Read Case for Christ by Lee Stroble, and some of your questions may be answered. My advice for you: Ignore the hypocritic people who call you an atheist. It's not our job to decide if you're a true Christian, it's God's. Feel free to ask him all the questions you need!

I appologize if you have been treated this way by me at any time. I strive to accept everyone. I do not agree with them, but I enjoy hearing about different views. It helps to solidify my views.
I used to be Catholic as well.
Why are all protestants labled as fundementalists? They aren't.
And as for seeing things in extremes, Black/White, Hot/Cold, think about what the word says about this..
Rev 3:15
" know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me. "

I have also experienced this. I am not an atheist, but I'm not a Christian either. It seems to me that Christians are either forbidden to read non-christian literature and scripture, or they have been indoctrinated to dismiss it.
I do not accept the various versions of the bible as the holy Word of God. I accept that portions of the truth have been included, but that the bible is incomplete and can not lead to spiritual advancement. For the most part, it has very little integrity, and cannot be relied upon as an authoritive text.
That being said, I also believe in God, and I believe that Jesus Christ taught the truth. He is spiritual master, or Son of God. I just choose to study more reliable scripture.

Of course you're a Christian if you're a Catholic.
Did you say "I AM a christian" because of the Protestant fundies who have taken the stand that "Catholics aren't Christians"? I'm sure you've run across that.
Soooo........
The Catholic religion FOUNDED the Christian church! Im really beyond disgusted with those Protestants who say that Catholics aren't Christians, it's really ridiculous.
You are ALL Christians, Catholic or Protestant.
If that's why you said "I AM a christian" then just try not to let it bother you that the fundie Protestants say this. Just go about keeping your relationship to God in your own life. Their "misteaching" on that doesn't really matter, in the end, it's just a bunch of noise.
I'm Jewish, and we have learned long ago to let Christian misteachings about us and our religion roll off our backs and to go along with our lives and religion anyway.
So I'd say the same thing to Catholics when attacked by Protestants in that way - it doesn't really matter what they think. What matters is in your own heart, and your own knowledge, and your OWN soul and spiritual growth, and this progress is all up to you and in your hands, and no one else's.

Faith is an extremely personal choice. I find that many of us (people in general) want to defend our choices against anyone and anything.
Also, an answer that is good enough for one person may not be good enough for another. Some people are comfortable with the knowledge that they have obtained and do not seek to know more. Questions can be troublesome, especially ones as important and esoteric as the ones brought about from belief. They may resent your inquiries and view them as attempts to upset their contentedness.
As I'm sure you know, not all people are as open-minded as you. Take what they say with a grain of salt, don't allow it to bother you. Save your questions for those who are willing to truly discuss the topics.
Good luck on your personal journey.

"Can someone please tell me why SOME fundementalists dismiss my questions by labelling me as an athiest ..."
Fixed for you.
Maybe it's the way you ask? Based on this question:
"For the fundementalists, since you are so great at judging who gets into heaven?
Should a person who, say doesn't go to mass on Sunday, or, happens to like people of the same sex, or I dunno, steals a loaf of bread to feed his family have the same fate when they die as say, oooh, I dunno...
Hitler? Ted Bundy? You know, proper evil people. "
maybe it's because you don't sound like a Christian? I don't know any Christians that would ask such a question.

Black and white - they're allergic to nuance. You're either with 'em or your against 'em. It's no mystery why these people voted for Bush...lol.
And to Mr. Lawrence R down there - the "inherrent flaw" in following the Bible to the letter is that, in the first place, it's impossible to follow such a wildly diffuse and self-contradictory collection of texts "to the letter." You may THINK you are, owing to your total lack of a critical faculty, but you are NOT.
