Right. I went to the doctor yesterday. What's the ideal dose for people on this medication? My doctor stated I could increase my dose by taking two or three or four Xanax. I don't want to over do it.

There isn't really an ideal dose. I assume that you mean it isn't working for anxiety? Half a mg is a typical dose, but many people need more and use a 1mg dose. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist before increasing your dose because they know what other medications you are on. I am a pharmacist but I don't have enough info to tell you to increase your dose.

That's something you should discuss with the Dr who gives you the Xanax as everyone's ideal dose is different. If you feel that it is not working, call your Dr office and ask to speak with his nurse and tell her what is going on and why you feel it is not working. Then they will determine if you need a dose increase or another medication all together

.5 if probably not working because you have formed a habit, and your body is essentially building up a tolerance for the drug. If you just took it for the first time, then the drug is not strong enough for you anxiety.
Typically people take .25, or half of a .25 mg pill to ease symptoms of panic or anxiety. They are usually prescribed to use just occasionally, for things like flying in a plane, public speaking, or if you just broke up with a serious partner, someone in your family dies, etc. It is NOT meant to be used daily - if you are using it daily you need to go on a regular medication for the symptoms such as Zoloft. Xanax is habit forming so you have to be very careful with it.

the "ideal" dose is the one that works for you with the minimum of side effects. Max safe dose of Xanax is 2.0mg.
But with that dose you will also get major side effects.

MEDS = BAD
Psychiatry = BAD
Psychology = AWSOME
sorry for the caps but this gets me fired up. Because 1 thing most people in this high society FAIL to realize is that meds can not fix your problems in life they can only fix your biological problems like sickness your mind is your own playgrounds meds for the mind is like a bulldozer to a children's merrygoround.

xanax never worked for me either i was on 1mg, i switched to klonopin. which was great.
